Watching that show was one of the things that inspired Merle to pursue a music career when he was released from prison)
Karl Wells
Karl Wells is Newfoundland and Labrador's best-known broadcaster. Karl's CBC career began in the mid-seventies when he was heard as an actor in several national and regional dramas. In 1978 he became the nightly weather reporter on the popular CBC Newfoundland and Labrador television news program, Here & Now. In 2001, in addition to his regular duties, Karl became a member of Countrywide, the morning news and information program on CBC's digital channel, Country Canada. Along with his many other community commitments, Karl is proud to reprise his role as host of the annual Janeway Hospital Foundation's Children's Miracle Network Telethon. Viewers can catch Karl nightly on CBC News: Here & Now as the weather and features reporter. His passion for good food and fine dining is clearly evident on his new weekly celebrity cooking series, "Who's Cooking at Karl's?" Karl can also be heard providing the daily weather forecast for CBC Radio One's Radio Noon.
