Fort Taber Postcard
Title:
Fort Taber Postcard
Description:
A casual visit to Fort Taber Park in the South end of New Bedford, Massachusetts. Includes a brief look at some of the military history and points of interest of this scenic spot. Because of its strategic position overlooking the harbor, the area was reserved for military fortifications in the early Nineteenth century. Shortly before the Civil War, construction was begun on the impressive granite fort that would later be named Fort Rodman. In the early Twentieth Century, larger, more modern guns were installed in concrete batteries along the coastline. Today the area is open to the public for recreation, and serves as a memorial to the city's veterans from all wars and service branches, in honor of their sacrifices and dedication.
