![]() | Yuri and Daniel Beliavsky: Franck Violin-Piano Sonata in A Yuri Beliavsky, violin and Daniel Beliavsky, piano perform Cesar Franck's Violin-Piano Sonata in A, Mvt. I, at Christ & St. Stephen's Church, NYC, on September 18, 2005. The Strad Magazine reviewed this concert: "Violinist Yuri Beliavsky shared a recital with his pianist son Daniel, who accompanied him in cultivated and mellifluous accounts of the Franck Sonata, Bruch's Kol Nidre and short works by Handel and Schubert." Yuri Beliavsky was born in Moscow, USSR in 1932. He studied violin with Professor Abraham Yampolsky and chamber music with the great Russian pianist Maria Yudina at the Gnesin State Music Institute in Moscow. Beliavsky has been a member of the Grand Symphony Orchestra of Soviet Radio and Television, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, and has taught at Jerusalem's Rubin Academy, and performed as soloist with both the Moscow Radio and the Israeli Radio. Between 1972 and 1974, he made several recordings with the Jerusalem Symphony, among them Mozart's Concerto No.3 in G-Major, K. 216, Bartok's Violin Concerto No.1, and Bruch's Kol Nidre, which was recorded just before the Yom Kippur War, during which Yuri served in the Israeli Army. Since 1975, Yuri has been with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and has been on the teaching faculty of the Music Institute of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he has often appeared in recitals with his son, pianist Daniel Beliavsky. In 1983, Beliavsky recorded Lou Harrison's Concerto for Violin and Percussion Orchestra with the XX-Century Ensemble. In 1986-87, Beliavsky created a series of special programs for WFMR, the Classical Radio Station in Milwaukee, called "An Historical Perspective on the Art of Violin Playing since the Beginning of the Recording Era." These 33 programs were broadcast during the 1986 and 1987 seasons during prime time and were very well received. One of the highlights of these programs was the first international broadcast of a previously unknown Russian recording of ten year-old Jascha Heifetz made in 1911. Yuri Beliavsky also gives lectures on the "Art of Violin Playing." The most memorable of these lectures were given at the International Workshops in Austria and at the Gnesin Institute in Moscow, Russia. These programs are broadcast on Davidzon Radio in New York City. Yuri continues to perform actively in both Milwaukee and New York City. |

![]() | Rock Song By Violinist Dr. Nusrat Mumtaz Ruposhi 2 Bangladeshi violinist Dr. Nusrat Mumtaz Ruposhi ( http://www.violinistruposhi.com/ ) singing a rock/pop bangla/bengali song on Bangla Vision chanel. Dr. Mumtaz helping the promotion of academic learning of Violin tremendously in Bangladesh through her research and creation of fusion themes. Dr. Mumtaz is the daughter of once famous Dancer/Dance Director Late Mrs. Alpana Mumtaz, sister of Dance Director Dr. Shoma Mumtaz, and the niece of a Bangladesh house-hold name actress Late Mrs. Rowshan Jamil. Dr. N Mumtaz grew up in a musical family starting performing on BTV at the age of 3. Growing up she has seen many of today's and past famous artists/ustads rehearsing in her family living room. Her mother also encouraged her into acquiring formal education in music stating that the next generation should be significantly more advanced in music. That had inspired her much to completely and successfully be involved in Bangladesh music industry. Under the Indian government scholarship program, and the guidance of Professor DK. Bhonsle, Ruposhi had completed her Ph.D thesis in the faculty of performing arts at the Maharaja Sayaji Rao University, India. Her Ph.D research topic was "Forms and Styles of North Indian Classical Music in Bangladesh". Dr. Mumtaz's interests and talents in music extend far beyond not placing herself only as a classical violinist but also to direct and experiment with music. Her compositions range from pure classical compositions to 'fusion' music where she liberally applies and blends touches of modern, folk and/or western music styles on her strong classical base music. On one hand, Ruposhi fervently promotes classical music in violin in Bangladesh, on the other hand, she works to popularize music with creativity and fusion, without losing the classical chord in her music. Since 2004, Ruposhi has been presenting her fusion music compositions on many occasions on stage and television. |
