Reading & Northern: Steam on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway!

Title:
Reading & Northern: Steam on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway!

Description:
On September 5th, 2009, Penn Rail Videos made a trek into Carbon County, PA, to capture steam locomotion in the Lehigh Gorge State Park. We were far from dissappointed, as Reading & Northern's premier operating steam locomotive #425, is the motive power for this Labor Day Weekend extravaganza onboard the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway in Jim Thorpe, PA. We'll watch the train storm out of Jim Thorpe, then take a ride behind the big blue locomotive as she storms her way into the park. We'll see and pass by many famous locations along the railroad, such as Nesquehoning Junction, Glen Onoko, Oxbow Curve, and we'll conclude our journey at Old Penn Haven. If you like big steam running through beautiful scenery, this is the video for you! By the way, she is wearing a LEHIGH & NEW ENGLAND 3-chime whistle, not something you hear very often.

If you were ever lucky enough to wake up in the middle of a summer night to the sound of a steam locomotive passing in the distance, you would not ever forget the haunting sound of the whistle as it neared a crossing or the hissing of steam escaping slowly dwindling into the darkness as it continues it's journey. The sight and sounds of the steam locomotive are so unique an experience, we are lucky to have a few examples still running around the landscape for many to enjoy. No description or ...

Sunday, October 19th. A Reading & Northern autumn leaves special out of Port Clinton to Jim Thorpe, PA. And return trip. The 425 barks out of Jim Thorpe bound for Port Clinton, the stack talk was phenomenal! Not to mention the beautiful three chime step top Jersey Central Whistle reproduction. Reading and Northern 425 at Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. 9/5/09, Part 2
Watch at about 50 seconds into the video - underneath the front of 425, you will see a load of sparks and ash (possibly fire) being dumped by the engine headed north on the 3 pm train - which is probably where all of the little track smoking/fire came from...then more footage of chasing the 425 and train up to Pittston, doing it's "ferry move" to get ready for Sunday's runs. Enjoy!!
