Winter Mirage, Fairbanks, Alaska
A spectacular mirage created by a strong inversion layer makes a fluid horizon after sunset. For some reason this mirage is particularly active with the horizon wobbling up and down with wave motions. At the end the horizon goes almost entirely flat, except for Denali.

Aurora near Fairbanks, Alaska
Only modest auroral activity was expected this night, and so much greater was the surprise to realize that the camera had captured what appear to be 3 separate substorms in less than 3 hours (usually you'll be lucky to see one within 2 hours of the last). The onset of the last substorm (1:23) is extremely bright and impressive, but lasts less than a minute and is too fast and dynamic for a time lapse.
