Title:
Final Fantasy 5 Playthrough Part 33
Description:
This is from the fourth day of my Final Fantasy 5 playthrough (Parts 25-33). Today I try reading all the characters' lines aloud in Japanese - with amusing results. I enter the ruined city at the end of the Shifting Sands Desert, and ... is that the King of Tycoon? Cid and Mid build a ship which I promptly lose. I solve the mystery of Jackole cave which had plagued me so many times in the past. I fight... 2, 3 boss battles was it? And use plenty of Raijin no Jutsu (Thundergod's Technique) to avoid death in them. I learn a lot of Japanese in this one, and anyone following along will find it very educational. This description applies to parts 25-23. You may have to watch more than one part to find a particular event or conversation. Japanese I didn't know: じょうくう 上空 Joukuu - I was able to guess the pronunciation and meaning, but it was a new word nonetheless. It means upper sky, or upper atmosphere. 砲台 - houdai - Another word who's meaning and pronunciation I guessed (basically) correctly. It means battery or fort, the things that I must destroy in the flying fortress in order to enter. くたばらない - kutabaranai - comes from the verb くたばる, which means to die. When we were looking for Galaf, we couldn't find him, so Faris (?) said basically, "Left on his own, he (is an old man that) won't die," which at the time I couldn't understand. ただでは、くたばらない じいさんだ。 間に合わせる - ma ni awaseru - means "to make do." Sid had said "we were able to make do with the parts from the steam ship. "karyokusen no parts de, ma ni awasetayo." (Part 26, 7:19) ひとひねり - hito hineri - means, not a big deal. So Galaf said that the missile turrets were no big deal (I thought he was being scared , but I guess that's not Galaf's character!) (Part 33, 0:05) しゅりけん - shuriken - a throwing star or throwing knife (Part 27, 9:49) ねつかせる - netsukaseru - to put to sleep. I looked it up while I was playing - I'll try to stop doing that in the future! (Part 31, 3:39) タイクーンの上空がさけた - Tycoon no Joukuu ga saketa - I think this is meant to be obtuse, and I think it means the sky above Tycoon was broken through (someone learned how to fly...?) (Part 31, 8:03)

Today I confront my own mortality... a few times. I give in and read a walkthrough online. I FAIL, that's right, FAIL to do something as simple as level building. He can be pretty useful at times, but to me, he's just another melee attacker. - Tower of Babel ALWAYS LOOKS THE SAME. No matter where you are. I swear, we're not going to be here again. I think..
