He and his 1935-36 team were inducted into the LIU Hall of Fame on Feb 21, 2009 for boycotting the 1936 US Olympic Trials in protest of Hitler's policies towards Jews. The 1935-36 Blackbirds were the country's top-rated team and consisted of Jules Bender, Ben Kramer, Leo Mersen, Art Hillhouse, and Marius Russo. |
