This living hive is inside the gift shop at Munro Apiary. It's glassed in with a pipe to the outside, so that bees can exit to gather pollen. Visitors can see the bees doing their various jobs, and also the queen laying eggs. Staff can describe to you how the different aged workers do different tasks during their 45 day lifespan. The queen lives 4 or 5 years.

NC Zoo Opens Honeybee Garden Exhibit
The North Carolina Zoological Park debuted a new Honeybee Garden exhibit in June 2009. The exhibit, which grows out of a long-time relationship with the North Carolina Beekeepers' Association, includes a working demonstration hive, a display of bee-related products, and a wide variety of plants and flowers related to healthy bee populations.
