CANADA VAWT Model FF01

Title:
CANADA VAWT Model FF01

Description:
CANADA-VAWT is a Flip-Flop type Vertical Axis Wind Turbine which works purely on Drag principle. Although at present it is at prototype stage, its development is at final stages. From its conception in the early 80's (Cardboard model) to now an almost working model, its performance has strengthened the confidence that it can be successful as a roof top wind turbine as well as a large scale power generator. True it has a 'lot' of moving parts i.e. the flaps, but the RPM is very low max around 60 rpm max. This prevents these moving parts from being overstressed. Our flap design has withstood the harsh Canadian winters as well as some of the hot summer days since about two years without falling apart, breaking or deforming beyond correction. There is a lot to be said about the design of its GUTS where, in my opinion, the actual success or failure lies. Many iterations of generator design and implementation strategies have been considered and carried out so far. The current one, I think will establish a direction to last for a while...

Energy Creation 3 KW (VAWT) Verticle Axis Wind Turbine
It is estimated that small scale wind generation -- together with other forms of microgeneration -- could provide 30-40% of all the uk's electricity needs by 2050*. And, with price trends for crude oil continuing upwards, it is currently projected that the cost of small scale wind will be competitive with fossil fuels by as early as 2010. Small scale renewable energy technologies, such as small wind turbines generate clean and renewable energy with no harmful emissions, and can thus help to ...

Wind Turbine Outside
It was a fairly windy day, so I decided to give the wind turbine a test run outside. I'm still waiting on the wire, so it does nothing besides spin right now.

Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) - Short Video
Windterra's Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) is designed to operate in micro-winds as low as 3 metres/second (10.8 km/h, 6.7 mph) and can withstand winds as strong as 53 m/s (190 km/h, 118 mph). The optimal output of 1 kw is reached in wind speeds of 11-12 m/s (39 - 43 km/h, 24.6 - 26.8 mph).
