Title:
Near Cross country bicyclists Mr. John Smart
Description:
Traveling from Los Angeles Ca. to St Augustine Fl. Mr. Smart is from Loveland Co. Mr. Smart was riding his bike through the town-heard music playing saw lots of cars parked thought it was a band setting up being an adventure lover he headed for all the commotion along the levee. He was approached by Mr. Ben Hood and Hood asked Mr. Smart if he would like a beer and the rest is history Mr. Smart was now a part of Big Johns graduation party. I have lived in Louisiana most of my life and that is not uncommon for you to be invited to an event not having any knowledge of any occasion or the people you just met. Some times you could just go for a stroll and find yourself having the time of your life. His trip will take him to Oak Alley a place that I have passed many times but never stopped. That building has been in so many films he will have stories to tell about that place. When he gets to New Orleans I wish him the best the town is not 100% yet he will have plenty of stories about that place too and believe him they are going to be unbelievable but they are going to all be true. To see such devastation in the USA is unbelievable to have seen it 3 months after was beyond numbing. Knowing they are to this day finding bodies of victims is unfathomable. He plans to fly back to Colorado when he gets to St.Augustine Fl. It was so nice to get the opportunity to meet with one of the people we see from time to time traveling through on bike so many people would love to enjoy such a magnificent journey. Sorry I didn't think to do a (you tube) video until he was nearing the end of the party but this is the best we have please forgive me. Mr Hood knew the late Mr.Kocke the founder of the business and he was telling me about how it was sort of a family tradition to invite people to the party. Weather Mr. Kocke knew them or not he went to the boats docked on the river folks he would incidentally encounter would be invited to what ever party they were having that time. In honor of that tradition and the Late Mr.Kocke Mr. Hood invited Mr. Smart a stranger to enjoy the celebration. He came in on an event true but having married in the family going on 8 years now I can tell you this was a mild event usually they will have BBQ fireworks alcohol of course and lots of music this family enjoys every day they are given together. Sure there are stories of parties that would have made the Jerry Springer show fortunately in 8 years I have yet to witness such things. Go to a Louisiana festival and you will have the greatest fun you ever had. If you go to see Wayne Toups play and you don't get down and dance you would have to be dead cause even the people in wheelchairs have to dance when Wayne Toups comes to town. Mr. Smart and I had some in common we both like the Giant brand bikes' I own a Giant Sedona mountain bike Mr. Smart my guess is the FCR 3 his bike had the aluminum frame high pressure tires and the special shoes that rode on a post for pedals on the bike (sure-footed positioning). He has an odometer that had more miles on it than I care to ride in 40 days. There is a place for beverage storage, rear luggage rack, and probably a lot more that he left in the motel. He is truly living a dream this is a wonderful trip to make to have the health and the wealth to embark on such a journey is an incredible blessing. The ride through the desert must have been amazing he spoke of the mountains and other things like hitting a deer! He said a lady in a car hit a bear near the same place. He said his load on the bike is 40 lbs he has a tent but other than that I don't know what else he carries. I spoke to him about a recent purchase I made a MSR water filter he said he had to get water from a river strain it through a bandana and add pills to make the water safe to drink. He said the water tasted awful but he needed a drink. He was impressed with my I phone how we could find things such as the tent hammock that I was telling him about. He never realized that there were such devices (tent Hammock) and said he probably will get one. Don't know what his tent weighs but I bet it is a lot more than a hammock would weigh. This party was taking place at John Kockes' family business Elray Kocke service Inc 511 Mississippi St. Donaldsonville La 70346 Congratulations Big John on your accomplishment. John loves working in the family business really likes the concrete business he has many skills under his belt at his young age. We all love John he is a great person to know he seems to have the wisdom of a much older man I hope he is half as happy as his mother and father Janet and Carlo. Mr Smart can be reached at his and his wife's e-mail account jandpsmart2@msn.com.
