The Chincoteague Island, VA Fire Dept owns the Asseteague Island Ponies. The Saltwater Cowboys round them up to swim the channel for the annual fundraising auction of the young ones. Then they send the remaining ponys back until next year.

2008 Wild Chincoteague Pony Swim
My trip to Chincoteague Island, VA! It was so fun and exciting. The boat was closer to the ponies but it drifted even though we had the anchor out.

Every year the wild ponies of Assateague Island are rounded up and swam across the channel to the neighboring island of Chincoteague. This is where the foals and yearlings are auctioned off to keep the population under control. Filming credits again go to my best friend Ceara (Orcagirl282)
