Minke Whale Rolls on Side and Shows Partial Tail Fluke

Description:
This minke whale (Balaenoptera_acutorostrata) was interacting with a playful California sea lion and stayed in the general vicinity of our boat for multiple breathing cycles. In this clip, it rolls slightly on its side then shows the left side of its tail fluke before diving. It may have been a juvenile, as a larger minke was spotted in the vicinity a few minutes later. Santa Barbara Channel (near Santa Cruz Island), July 26, 2008.
