Description:
http://www.TheBoaters.TV Ep 65: And They're Off - The Barcelona World Race has Begun! A first in the sport of offshore sailing, The Barcelona World Race is a new two-handed, non-stop round the world yacht race covering 25,000 miles over three months across the planet's most hostile and challenging oceans. Starting and finishing in the Spanish city of Barcelona, the teams of two will be sailing aboard high-performance IMOCA Open 60 monohull racing boats. The race began Sunday, November 11th with each team reporting in to say they had experienced no major difficulties in the first 24 hours. For a look at the teams and their sponsors, as well as to follow the progress of the race through a variety of multimedia formats, including satellite video conferences with the crew onboard the various boats and breathtaking digital photos, please visit http://www.BarcelonaWorldRace.com Also be sure to check out the animated BWR Live Sailing 3D Race Viewer that is tracking the course of the vessels at http://www.LiveSkipper.com And forget fantasy football!LiveSkipper brings you something akin to fantasy sailing, as you can sign up to compete right along side them, evolving in the same racing conditions as your favorite champions. Totally cool! Next up: Adrian Flanagan's Alpha Global Expedition Update Adrian Flanagan, a British Yachtsman determined to sail the first ever single-handed vertical circumnavigation of the globe. Having made it through the Arctic Ocean over the course of the summer, on October 28th---the two year anniversary from when he first set out, and with only about 1,600 miles to go---Flanagan once again had to suspend his circumnavigation attempt due to not having a suitable gap in the weather to proceed. On November 1st, Adrian arrived back in the U.K. to the open arms of his two young sons and a host of fanfare from his supporters where he will now spend the winter working on his book, Over The Top-- already available for pre-order on Amazon (UK)--which will be published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson in November 2008. Adrian will return to Norway at the earliest opportunity next year to bring his Barrabas home. We will definitely be ready to cheer him to the finish of this incredible journey!
