The Emissions Trading System - putting a price on carbon

Title:
The Emissions Trading System - putting a price on carbon

Description:
European Commission production: "The EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) is a world first and a major weapon in Europe's fight against climate change. The innovative system has turned carbon dioxide emissions into a tradeable commodity. They can now be bought and sold like any other of the thousands of products traded on world markets today. The scheme works by placing a limit or a 'cap' on the amount of carbon dioxide participating installations - currently around 10,500 across the European Union - can emit every year. If an installation emits more than its allowance, it must either pay a very hefty fine or buy surplus allowances from companies that have managed to stay below their limit. The system ensures that overall CO2 emissions from the plants covered are cut in the most cost effective way. The video report shows: Factories and sources of CO2 emissions Renewable energies' systems ABN-Amro trading floor Pernis' Shell oil refinery (Europe's biggest oil refinery) DSM chemical plant Interviews with key figures including: Tomas Wyns, Climate Action Network Europe Jos Delbeke, Director for Climate Change & Air, DG Environment, European Commission Sara Ståhl, European Climate Exchange Gerhard Mulder, ABN-Amro Annemarie van der Rest, Shell Marc van Doorn, DSM Julia Williams-Jacobse, Dutch Environment Ministry Dr. Bert Metz, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change."

Carbon offset trading fraud -- huge criminal activity
http://www.globalchange.com Carbon offsets and carbon offsetting fraud. Lack of carbon market regulation, verification and independent audit of carbon saving schemes. Need to prove genuine carbon reduction, proof of additionality. Government exaggeration of carbon use, false carbon credits. Kyoto compliance and global warming action, reducing emissions of carbon dioxide. Carbon capture, carbon sequestration, underground storage of carbon dioxide. Double counting. Subsidies and grants for no added value. False accounting for emissions and carbon saving. Inconsistend measures and public standards. Global carbon trading and caps on carbon emissions. Carbon swops between industries, corporations and governments. International standards for carbon trading. Profits from carbon markets and CO2 trades. Emission reduction and energy savings. Adultery trading
This started out as an entry to the Davos Question, but I thought the focus was too narrow and the "answer" to the question way too unpalatable for mass consumption, not to mention far too preachy. But I'd spent some time on the animation, so it's now a general rant against Emissions Trading. No doubt there are some holes in the logic, and this is, by necessity, a one-sided view. However, I believe it is significant that we're emitting just as many greenhouse gases as before, but we're trading more and more every year. That means we're simply juggling the figures: at some point, we'll run out of pollution credits and have to decide whether to break the agreement, or shut down a lot of our industry overnight.

Refined Waste Oil for Fuel : DigInfo
DigInfo- http://movie.diginfo.tv/ The Remix is a waste oil refinery and fuel generating machine developed by DCA Engineering, and can mix waste oil, such as cooking oil and lubricating oil, with heavy oil, light oil, and kerosene to generate fuel for use in boilers, diesel engines, and power generating machines. Compared to the existing chemical methods, the machine physically mixes emulsifications of waste oil and petroleum, requiring no chemicals as additives. It is not based on any chemical reaction, so no side products are created. With this machine, waste cooking oil can substitute for 20% of light oil and kerosene or 30% of heavy oil. The energy costs can be reduced proportionally by the amount of waste cooking oil that is mixed. The machine can process 500 liters of waste oil per hour which reduces the processing cost to less than 0.1 yen per liter. An exemplary usage is to produce fuel from by-product oil that is generated during the process of converting food residue to feedstuff.
