Now it's time to show the sirens in the other towns in Benton County. Here they are in the order seen, along with their locations: ATKINS (Two Sirens) -ACA Screamer (Corner of 1st St & 1st Ave, on top of City Hall) -Whelen WS-3016 (One block north of the fire station along Railroad St) BELLE PLAINE (Three Sirens) -Federal Model 5 (Corner of 13th St & 8th Ave, on top of the police dept.) -Federal 2001-130 (Two of them, neither shown. See the update above.) #1: Corner of 9th Ave & 16th St #2: 5th Ave & 11th St BLAIRSTOWN -ASC Tempest T-121 (Along Fremont St between Locust St & West St) GARRISON -Fedelcode Model 5 (Near the triple-intersection of Birch Ave, Hickory St & Oak St, next to the old fire station) KEYSTONE -Model 5 Variant (On the old water tower) LUZERNE -Federal Model 2 (Near the corner of Iowa St & Main St, behind the fire station) MOUNT AUBURN -MARS Siren (Near the triple-intersection of 2nd St, Short St & Commercial St, behind the fire station) NEWHALL -Federal 3T22 (Near the corner of Main St & First St, behind City Hall) NORWAY -Whelen 2016 Variant (Near the corner of Railroad St & Union St, behind the fire station) SHELLSBURG -Whelen WS-3016 (Near the corner of Main St & Pearl St, behind the fire station) URBANA -Whelen WS-3016 (Corner of Wood St & Union Ave, behind the city garage) VAN HORNE -Whelen 2016 Variant (Corner of Main St & 1st Ave, next to the fire station/ambulance garage) WALFORD (Three Sirens, I only show one of them because all three are the same model) -Whelen Vortex #1: Along B Ave between 3rd St & 4th St, next to the park (This is the one shown in the video) #2: Corner of 4th St & 4th Ave (Not seen) #3: Near the corner of Gaddis Blvd & A Ave (Not seen) Forgive the poor quality of some of these pictures. Poor lighting (It was near sunset) combined with limited parking availability forced me to take some less-than-perfect pictures. It is located behind the fire station in downtown Shellsburg, near the corner of Main Street and Pearl Street. This siren is part of the DAEC siren system. Several other DAEC 3016s located outside of town are also heard in this video. It's a 3016, but it has the tone generator of a 4004! This was a surprising twist I didn't expect.  | Whelen WS-2016 Monthly Test This is the monthly test of an old Whelen WS-2016 omni-directional siren. It is located at the intersection of two rural gravel roads approximately five miles southeast of Vinton. This siren is part of the DAEC siren system. Other sirens heard are a mix of WPS-4004s and WPS-3016s, also part of the DAEC siren system. And yes, those are cows you hear mooing in the background. This is a video of the worst part of the storm passing through my hometown of Vinton. The city's sirens can be heard sounding for most of the video due to the high winds, which fortunately ended up not being as strong as expected.  | Calamus, IA Federal Model 7 Noon Blast (4/4/2009) This is the siren located on top of the Town Hall in Calamus, IA. Based on the quicker wind-up, I am fairly certain this is a Model 7, thus I have labeled it as such in the video titles. Wind-down seems a little short, so it may be in need of some minor maintenance. Otherwise, it sounds very good indeed. As usual, more apologies for my recording shortfalls.  | Siren Ambiance: DAEC System Test This is an audio-only (No video or pictures) ambiance recording of the DAEC siren system being tested on October 1, 2008. I hid a digital voice recorder in a corn field about three miles west of Shellsburg and let it run while I went and recorded Shellsburg's 3016. At least six sirens are heard in this recording (Including the one in Shellsburg), possibly more depending on how good your hearing is (There are 10 sirens within four miles of where this was recorded).
