NASA Rocket Booster Segments | Ares I-X Stacked for Flight Test - July 2009
Another major milestone in the launch of nasa's Ares IX rocket flight test has been achieved in Kennedy Space Center's Vehicle Assembly Building. The four aft solid rocket booster segments were stacked, or assembled, July 1 on a mobile launcher platform in High Bay 3. This will allow the stacking of the upper stage simulator components atop the segments later in July.

NASA s First Cluster Test of World's Largest Rocket Parachutes for Ares I a Success
NASA and industry engineers conducted the first successful cluster test of the Ares I rocket's three, 1-ton main parachutes May 20 at the US Army Yuma Proving Ground located near Yuma, Ariz. The main parachute is designed to slow the rapid descent of the spent first-stage motor and permit its recovery for use on future flights. The main parachutes -- the largest rocket parachute ever manufactured -- measure 150 feet in diameter and weigh 2000 pounds each.
