Don Rickert of Rickert & Ringholz and Darci Jones of Hooley and Fiddarci Lutherie play a jig on baritone (octave) fiddle and the new Adventurer Travel Fiddle (a pochette). Dr. Rickert never practices and he takes full responsibility for ALL bum notes, weird chords and creative timing. :-)

Demo of New Rickert Violin Synth Drowsy Maggie and Enter Sandman (Audio mostly)
see www.baritoneviolins.com or www.donrickertdesign.com. Except for talking head parts by industrial designer (new musical instrument design guru) Dr. Don Rickert, IDSA, this is essentially an audio file. Legal counsel will not let us show our close to final Violin Synth / MIDI control surface until we have a "clean" patent with no challenges...but at least you can hear it. This might be the first and only video with BOTH an old Irish reel (Drowsy Maggie) and one of the great Metal anthems ...
Photo Montage of Rickert & Ringholz Neil Gow Kit
Photos from various angles of our new replica of a pochette (aka kit fiddle), made c. 1780 in Glasgow, Scotland. The type most likely used by Neil Gow, the father of what we now know as Scottish Highland fiddling...also Thomas Jefferson had one. To hear it expertly played in the proper baroque technique (tucked in the armpit), go to www.youtube.com (thanks Justin!). Made by Rickert & Ringholz www.fiddleandbowstore.com
Yet Another Drowsy Maggie on Baritone Fiddle and Pochette
Yeah, it may be over-done, but Drowsy Maggie always gets a lot of hits...plus this one has a baritone fiddle playing true second fiddle (not just the tune an octave lower) to a modern pochette, also known as a backpacker fiddle. Don Rickert (of Rickert & Ringholz) and Darci Jones (of Hooley and Fiddarci Lutherie) playing. As with all videos in which Dr. Don appears, all the flat notes, just plain wrong notes and strange chords are his contribution...a side-effect of chronic lack of practice....
Demo of Carleen Pochette prototype
This fiddle has all sorts of proprietary internal porting and only one sound hole. The soundpost is adjusted through a 'trap door' on the back. It is primarily an R&D project and many aspects will become part of the new Backpacker fiddle. The 'Carleen' is a tribute to Dr. Carleen Hutchins, whose research yielded many discoveries related to porting stringed instruments.
