The Detroit City Council delivered a stinging rebuke to Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and in a stunning development told the mayor it would not accept his budget recommendation today. Council President Ken Cockrel Jr. told the mayor the news after he sat down at the council table. "It seems as if that could have happened in my office," Kilpatrick responded. "Grandstanding is not beneficial to our citizens." This is the first time Kilpatrick has come before council since it voted 7-1 in March to ask him to resign over the text-message scandal. |
 | Detroit rap station gets humma' carjacked in the city. http://www.detroitiscrap.com DETROIT -- A group of armed teenagers carjacked the Hot 102.7 promotional Hummer on Detroit's eastside Tuesday afternoon. "I don't understand why would you want to steal a Hummer with Russ Parr's big face plastered on the side of the vehicle," said an angry 102.7 DJ, Suga Rae. The Hummer was recovered a few hours later on Canfield and Bewick streets. Police said there was only slight damage to the vehicle. Police said the promotions manager was carjacked while filling up at the Shell gas station on Jefferson Avenue and Chene Street. "Four guys pulled up and at gunpoint they took our hummer," said Ms. Smiley with the 102.7 promotions department. No one was injured during the carjacking. Police said they do not have any information on whether arrests in the case were made. |

Police said the fight started between students, who then called their parents to break up the fight. The parents ended up becoming involved in the argument as well. A Detroit Public Schools officer was hurt, but his injuries are not life-threatening, according to police. Police are still investigating the cause of the fight, and it is unknown whether or not any criminal charges will be filed. |
