Jean Tresch- property rights abuse in Alabama!

Title:
Jean Tresch- property rights abuse in Alabama!

Description:
Update -- April 29th, 2008 The Marshal County Commission declared Jean Tresch's real property to be free from "junk," as defined by the county's "code enforcement officer." "BUT" - under "Limited Self-Governance," fines and court cost will automatically be reinstated if anyone files another complaint against Jean within the next twelve months. Regulating Jean's behavior and living in fear of governmental retribution are just two benefits of "Limited Self-Governance"! In this video Jean Tresch, resident of Marshall County - victim of "Limited Self-Governance", (LSG) is interviewed by Paul Brothers for the Marshall County Citizens for Property Rights organization. Fifteen counties across Alabama have deceptively enacted LSG through inadequate ballot language. "Governance is not government -- it is the framework of rules, institutions, and practices that set limits on the behavior of individuals, organizations and companies", United Nations "Human Development Report", 1999, page 8. Everything is running smooth during a routine inspection, until a tenant refuses to open the door. Disclaimer: Please recognize that the events as filmed are not representative of most code enforcement cases. Most cases do not involve so many people (i.e. sheriff, building inspectors, planning, etc.) Please also recognize that out of 55 minutes of raw footage, I picked these 5 minutes and 42 seconds for footage. Thus, there's a lot of boring stuff that was cut out but at the same time, would've given this film a more accurate context. This is not an "official" representation of code enforcement, but has been put together as something of an informative satire.
