![]() | Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) - MK The modular designed MK-system is integrated in the exhaust piping of the vehicle, most of the times in place of the original muffler. The filter medium is made of Silicium Carbid (SiC), a high-tech ceramic. The filter is able to load the harmful diesel particles from approximately 8 working hours. Then the maximum allowed backpressure is reached and the filter needs to be regenerated. For this purpose, the diesel burner is ignited while the engine is shut-down. Depending on the filter size, the regeneration is completely over from 5 to 35 minutes. About 3,4 oz to 10 oz of diesel fuel are necessary for each regeneration. The entire process is supervised by the HUSS Control electronic device. |
![]() | The soot trap A video by the max Planck Society from 2006 regarding the research into the reduction of soot from diesel-fueled vehicles. Source- http://www.mpg.de/english/illustrationsDocumentation/multimedia/scienceMovies/index.html 'Manufacturers of diesel-fueled vehicles are working feverishly on a filter concept that will decrease the emission of diesel soot. Standard impedance filters can, over time, become clogged and must then be regenerated. This requires additives and additional maintenance time and costs. During the course of a joint project, scientists at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society have discovered that soot particles from modern commercial vehicle motors are structured in a totally different manner than has been generally assumed: Through improved combustion, substantially smaller, fullerene-like soot particles are formed. These are much more reactive than soot from earlier generations of engines and can therefore be broken down through the nitrogen oxide that is contained in exhaust. Based on the basic researchers' findings, engineers at filter manufacturer EMITEC and MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG have developed a new, open system that does not have to rely on renewal and additives: The "soot trap" holds back the soot particles long enough until they have been burned off by the nitrogen oxide of the exhaust and turned into carbon dioxide. The expulsion of soot is consequently reduced by up to 90 percent.' |
![]() | RYPOS Active Diesel Particulate Filter RYPOS, Inc., developer of an advanced, self-regenerating filter that reduces harmful emissions from diesel engines, has been granted California Air Resources Board (CARB) Verification for its RYPOS HDPF/C™ filter. The Level 3 Plus CARB Verification states that during extensive tests, the filter reduced particulate matter by 85 percent or more on stationary diesel engines that power standby generators. |

![]() | CleanAIR PERMIT Filter on Off-Road Vehicle The CleanAIR PERMIT Filter installed on a loader (off-road diesel vehicle) at a hard rock mine. The PERMIT Filter is a custom designed diesel particulate filter used to virtually eliminate emissions of particulate matter, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons from diesel exhaust. The video shows a construction retrofit and emissions testing by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) with a visible, dramatic reduction in particulate emissions (soot) after installation of the PERMIT Filter. Retrofitting an off-road fleet with PERMIT Filters can substantially decrease toxic emissions at a mine or construction site. |
