Despite that year's announcement of the closure of Swindon Works, 1985 marked the 150th Anniversary of the founding of the Great Western Railway by Act of Parliament. Evening Star & the WD Austerity 2.8.0 1931 on the KWVR
This must rate as the most powerful combination of locomotives ever run on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. The lead engine is 92220 Evening Star which was the last steam locomotive built for BR. The second engine is a former War Department 2.8.0 which was discovered in Sweden long after all the others had been scrapped and then purchased for preservation.
