The Jiuzhaigou Geological Park（www.jiuzhai.com ）is situated at the northern foothills of the Duangaer Peak in the Min Mountains that forms part of the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau. Administratively, It is located in western Jiuzhaigou County, overlooked from the Huanglong area of Songpan County on the south,and adjacent to the Wanglang Nature Reserve in the east. Its geographic position ranges from 103 ° 46 ′ to 104° 5′ E and from 32 ° 51 ′ to 33° 20′ N. The park extends 38 kilometers in north and south directions and 23 kilometers east and west, with an area of 728.3K㎡. In 1992,Jiuzhaigou was listed by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. In 1997,it joined the Man and Biosphere conservation network. In 2002,the area was certified by the Global Green 21.The area was awarded by china′State Council and the National Bureau of Tourism the status of Key National Scenic Area and 5A Grade Scenic Area. In 2004,China′s National Land Resource Ministry approved it as a National Geological Park. Jiuzhaigou's extraordinary geomorphic features are the result of a long and complex geological and evolutionary process. The anciet geological formation gave the framework upon which the modern geomorphology developed. During post-glacial period when the climate was mild, water flow, biological effect, and karstization reached their peaks in shaping the higher and frigid mountain and valley land between the elevations of 2000and 4700m. Where water flows directly downward, calcified dikes of different sizes developed, which blocked the water flow to form a series of pools or lakes, In some places, the water spreads out and cascades down the mountain to become enormous falls, beach flows or gushing springs. As a result the area is covered with extraordinary water bodies, including 114 green lakes,17 falls,5beach flows,47 springs, and 11 derived flows that move through the snow-capped mountains, traveling for 50 km like rivers of pearls and ornaments in the Y-shaped forested valley and dropped 1870m in elevation.
