El mundo griego tampoco otorgó especial importancia a las construcciones civiles, aunque sí es cierto que las civilizaciones minoica y micénica dieron a los palacios un relevante papel. La obra maestra de la arquitectura minoica es el palacio de Cnosós en Creta, que constaba de 17400 metros cuadrados construidos y de unas 1500 habitaciones organizadas en torno al patio central. Similares características presenta el palacio de Malia. La obsesión por la defensa que se manifiesta en la cultura micénica llevará a la edificación de potentes murallas. La aparición de la representación teatral en el mundo griego llevará a la creación de una construcción específica: el teatro, cuyo mejor ejemplo es el de Epidauro, diseñado por Policleto el Joven a finales del siglo IV a.C. Otros ejemplos de arquitectura civil en Grecia son la Linterna de Lisícrates, levantada en la época de Alejandro en Atenas como homenaje al ganador de un concurso teatral, o el Reloj de Andrónico, curiosa construcción en la que un reloj de agua es coronado con una veleta de bronce con la imagen de Tritón. La arquitectura civil conocerá un espectacular desarrollo durante la época romana. Afortunadamente se han conservado numerosos ejemplos de estos edificios que hicieron de Roma y sus provincias un auténtico entramado de arcos, acueductos y calzadas. El eje de la ciudad de Roma eran los foros, centro de la vida urbana, alrededor del cual se levantaban los edificios más importantes. Para conmemorar las glorias militares se edificaron arcos de triunfo, siendo los más espectaculares los de Tito y Septimio Severo. También nos han quedado excelentes ejemplos de villas palaciegas como la de Adriano en Tivoli o la espectacular Domus Aurea construida por Nerón en Roma. La civilización romana consiguió extenderse por toda Europa gracias a la amplia red de calzadas, manteniendo siempre a los bárbaros fuera del limes. Hi, my name is Sarah and I'm running for MathSoc President for the Winter 2009 term. Not to be confused with a certain other politically-minded Sarah whose last initial is also P. I may be from BC, which is close to Alaska, but I can assure you, we don't moose-hunt from helicopters. First of all, foreign policy. I haven't had any particular experience working with entities outside this faculty (such as Feds) but I have an idea of what the President's duties outside of running MathSoc are. I am confident in my ability to handle them professionally and am open to learning more about the university world outside the Math faculty. Next, the economy. Funding for clubs has been a contentious issue in recent times. Having been involved in a few MathSoc clubs, I've seen much opposition to the current funding formula and hope to work with clubs to review possible alternatives. Finally, domestic policy. I feel that there isn't enough MathSoc-related information that is easily-accessible. I would make sure that council meeting minutes are posted to the website in an easy-to-find location and that updates giving a quick sketch of what MathSoc is up to (events, etc.) are posted frequently. So remember, vote Sarah Pidcock (not Palin) for MathSoc President on November 24th and 25th. It's easy, and even co-op students can vote. Keep an eye out for the link to online voting!

Doing so will make it more difficult for individuals hostile to your cause to come and harass you. Rule #7: Stay on public property. You may be charged for trespassing if you do not. Rule #8: No violence. Rule #9: No weapons. The demonstration is a peaceful event. Your weapons. You will not need them. Rule #10: No alcohol or pre-drinking. Violating this rule may easily precipitate a violation of rules 1 and 2. Rule #11: No graffiti, destruction, or vandalism. Rule #12: If you want to do something stupid, pick another day. These should be self explanatory. Violation of these rules during a demonstration will tarnish the reputation of Anonymous, harm the demonstration itself and leave you vulnerable to attention from law enforcement. Rule #13: Anonymous is legion. Never be alone. Isolation during a protest marks you as a target for handlers who wish to provoke an angry reaction from you and other hostiles. In keeping with this principle... Rule #14: Organize in squads of 10 to 15 people. Rule #15: One or two megaphones per squad. A megaphone is helpful for maintaining the overall cohesion of a demonstration and spreading your message. However, too many will confuse the public and render you hearing impaired. Rule #16: Know the dress code. Forming a loose yet reasonable dress code for protest members will help to maintain cohesion and get the public to take you seriously. Rule #17: Cover your face. This will prevent your identification from videos taken by hostiles, other protesters or security. Use scarves, hats and sunglasses. Masks are not necessary, and donning them in the context of a public demonstration is forbidden in some jurisdictions. Rule #18: Bring water. A dehydrated, thirsty Anonymous is not a useful Anonymous. Rule #19: Wear good shoes. Following these rules will assure your comfort during the demonstration. Keep in mind that demonstrations may often be quite lengthy. Rule #20: Signs, fliers, and phrases. Have yours ready. Make sure that signs are large enough to read. Also ensure that the text on your signs and your phrases are pertinent to the target of the protest. Rule #21: Prepare legible, uncomplicated and accurate flyers to hand out to those who wish to know more regarding the motivations behind your actions. Rule #22: Document the demonstration. Videos and pictures of the event may be used to corroborate your side of the story if law enforcement get involved. Furthermore, posting images and videos of your heroic actions all over the internet is bound to generate win, exhorting other Anonymous to follow your glorious example. ------------

In an interview on CNN International's Your World Today, veteran journalist Seymour Hersh explains that the current violence in Lebanon is the result of an attempt by the Lebanese government to crack down on a militant Sunni group, Fatah al-Islam, that it formerly supported. Last March, Hersh reported that American policy in the Middle East had shifted to opposing Iran, Syria, and their Shia allies at any cost, even if it meant backing hardline Sunni jihadists. A key element of this policy shift was an agreement among Vice President Richard Cheney, Deputy National Security Advisor Elliot Abrams, and Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the Saudi national security adviser, whereby the Saudis would covertly fund the Sunni Farah al-Islam in Lebanon as a counterweight to the Shia Hezbollah. Hersh points out that the current situation is much like that during the conflict in Afghanistan in the 1980's -- which gave rise to al Qaeda -- with the same people involved in both the US and Saudi Arabia and the "same pattern" of the US using jihadists that the Saudis assure us they can control. When asked why the administration would be acting in a way that appears to run counter to US interests, Hersh says that, since the Israelis lost to them last summer, "the fear of Hezbollah in Washington, particularly in the White House, is acute." As a result, Hersh implies, the Bush administration is no longer acting rationally in its policy. "We're in the business of supporting the Sunnis anywhere we can against the Shia. ... "We're in the business of creating ... sectarian violence." And he describes the scheme of funding Fatah al-Islam as "a covert program we joined in with the Saudis as part of a bigger, broader program of doing everything we could to stop the spread of the Shia world, and it just simply -- it bit us in the rear."

nobody on the lakers could touch carlos boozer yesterday. Once the game started , he was getting a foul call once he gets touched by any laker. carlos boozer had a monster game with 27pts and 20 rebounds, and he also could not miss a shot at the end of the game. pau gaosl was horrible in this game, he could not post up once, okur is much stronger than him, he was not able to back him up, also he had 5 turnovers. Most of this was in the second quarter, kobe was on the bench and the jazz got the lead and never gave it back. lamar odom only took 3 shot attempts. He should take at least 10 shot attempts per game , unacceptable. pass him the ball the bench was awful , jordan farmar and sasha had 0 points. luke walton had 11 points. turiaf played ok . kobe bryant had only 8 points in the first half on 1-5 shooting. In the second half he had 26 points on 9-15. he took over the game in the 3rd quarter with 5 straight made baskets, but the lakers kept giving the JAzz wide open shots and layups. At the end of the third quarter, lakers got the lead to 7 points, while we had momentum on our side, at the beginning of the 4th, lakers had the ball so we had a chance to cut the lead, but phil jackson benched kobe and lamar and fisher at the beginning of the 4th quarter which was the main reason why we lost this game. lakers got a turnover in the first possession and then jazz got a lead above 10 points. lakers had a chance at the end , with 14 seconds left and 4 points deposit , but luke walton could not hold the ball , and he threw it away and threw with it our chances to win the game.
