A day of widespread severe weather resulted in numerous tornado sightings and two confirmed tornados, one F1 and another, the one I saw a F2. My chase began around 12:45 pm, I decided to stay between two areas of interest costing me an upclose view of the tornado but it was so unexpected. In this episode the tornado has crossed Putnam Road just south of Wilson Line and gets trapped by a small forest. On Thursday June 25th, 2009 an F2 Tornado tracked through the small town of Avon, Ontario, taking the roof off of a barn and destroying a house. It lasted at least 35 minutes as it built and waned over the town. Luckily noone was injured. As the tornado turned south we rushed home to see how close it would get to our house. Stormin' Norman called the Flight Information Centre to submit a PIREP (pilot weather report) , when suddenly golf ball sized hail started to fall from the sky (we saved a few chunks in our freezer). The tornado continued to churn just west of the Avon silos, we think this is when it ripped the roof off of a barn on the south side of Avon Drive. barely 30 km Northeast of the West Island, as well as reports of torrential downpours in the East End. In Southern and Southwestern Ontario, severe t-storms were reported there as well, and two confirmed tornadoes were spawned from a couple of them - one was an F1 and the other an F2, which was reported in the town of Avon, Ontario. No fatalities associated with these storms, thankfully. :) What a satisfying day this was, especially since t-storms have gotten off to a late start this Spring ...
