Collings Foundation allows you to go around, under and through their B-24, and you can touch and smell it too. I can't tell you how important this experience was to me - to see a B-24 just like my Dad flew.

World War II pilot Bernerd Harding feels he finally completed his mission, 65 years after his B-24 airplane was shot down over Germany. Harding, now 90 and suffering from prostate cancer, was a passenger Friday in the last B-24 still flying. (Sept. 27)

Flown by Lt Henry Etheridge of the 307th bombardment group, this B24 was shot down in 1945 by a Japanese fighter. After receiving damnage to one engine, and with higer engine power required from the remaing engines there was insufficient fuel to return to base. They were forced to ditch instead of bailing out as the area was heavily wooded, but all crewman exited the plane without serious injury within one minute of impact.
