Queensland Rail heritage steam locomotive BB18 1/4 1089 otherwise known as "Betty" pulls in the loop at Palmwoods for XLS5, a ICE operated Citytrain service to Nambour to pass with an ARHS Q tour to Yandina on QR's North Coast Line.

Due to trackwork being undertaken in and around Sherwood, 1089 and its train were rerouted to the Pinkenba branch, the line from Doomben to Pinkenba is one of only two sections of line on the suburban network to still use the Staff to obtain track authority.

1089 departs the workshops on its way to Brisbane were it will be towed by diesel to Bundaberg.

A tribute to the BB18 1.4 class in general and to Nos.1079 and 1089 which are the first steam engines i have in my memory. It was these two that got me interested in Steam locos when they visited my hometown when i was 5.

On a cool Saturday afternoon, BB18 ¼ 1089 struggles to lift its train over the final uphill section of the Little Liverpool Range before entering the Victora Tunnel and starting its descent into Grandchester with a ARHS Carnival of Flowers Train.
