www.mda.state.mn.us Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) employees are on the hunt for the emerald ash borer (EAB). It's a small, green bug that is spreading across the US destroying ash trees. Earlier this spring it was found in western Wisconsin, just a mile from the Minnesota border. MDA employees are now down in southeastern Minnesota looking for signs of its spread into the state.

Wood borers commonly infest pine trees but there are many species of these beetles so most any tree can get infested. It's smart to treat any tree with activity you wish to keep around. Once the beetles start feeding, their damage and presence will cause the tree to die quickly both directly and non-directly. This video shows what they do to a tree when eating and the consequence of letting them go about their business untreated.
