Patella vulgata - Common limpet. I pried it off its rock in Arbroath, scotland. It keeps searching for its mucus trail home. I put it back after shooting this video. Although they may seem to be fixed to the rock, common limpets actually move around to graze on algae during moist conditions or when they are submerged by the tide. They return to the same spot by following the mucus trail that they deposit. This spot becomes worn by the edges of the shell, and eventually an obvious 'scar' in the rock is created. This helps the limpet to attach even more tenaciously to the rock, a strategy that protects it from desiccation. Common limpets begin their life as males, becoming sexually mature at around 9 months of age. Most individuals undergo a sex change, typically becoming female at 2 or 3 years of age, although some remain as males . Spawning takes place once a year, usually from October to December, although the timing varies around the British Isles. Fertilisation occurs externally; the larvae spend their first few days of life in the water column, after which time they settle on the shore. Life-span varies, but is between 10 and 20 years . In many areas, limpets have been collected as a food source for many centuries

After the masquerade, I walked around with a sign that said "Come play a game with Roxas. Follow me.)" And gathered a TON of people. Then, when the Death Note cosplayers saw my sign, they brought even more!(Thanks guys! x3)...So our last few games of Barnacle(which we couldn't get on film because we were playing) took up the entire empty Dealer's Room. (I didn't count how many, but there must have been at least 25 people). How to Play: There is one captain, and the rest of the people are the crew. The captain shouts orders, and people have to follow them. The orders are; Attention, At Ease, Look Out, Life Boat, Starfish, Barnacle, and Swab the Deck. Attention/At Ease: When the captain shouts "Attention" you must stand at attention, saluting. YOU CAN NOT MOVE FROM ATTENTION UNTIL THE CAPTAIN SAYS "At Ease". If you move from attention without the captain saying "at ease", you're out. Look Out: When the captain shouts "look out" one person must get down on the floor, and another person must put their foot on that person's back. Anyone without a look out partner is out. Life Boat: When the captain shouts "life boat" 3 people must sit in a row and start rowing their life boat. Anyone not in a life boat is out. Starfish: When the captain shouts "starfish" 5 people must stand in a circle, put one of their hands in that circle and, once they have 5 people, start walking in a circle. Anyone not part of a starfish circle is out. Barnacle: There are 2 different ways to do barnacle. The original way is when the captain shouts "barnacle" everyone runs and sticks to the wall, and the last one to the wall is out. But since Conventions are so chaotic, and the idea of dozens of cosplayers throwing themselves against random walls doesn't sound too appealing, we've come up with a "convention version" for the barnacle command. When the captain shouts "barnacle" you drop to the ground as fast as you can, and the last person down is out. Swab the Deck: This command doesn't get anyone out of the game, but it scatters the players around to break up any "alliances" that may begin to form in the game. When the captain shouts "Swab the Deck" all the players must scatter while "swabbing the deck". That is how you play Barnacle (also called "Captain's Calling"). My buddies and I will try to start a game of Barnacle at every convention we go too... hopefully you'll all enjoy.
