Sonic Boom Bullwhip

Have you ever broken the sound barrier? It's easier than you think. You just need a good bullwhip, which converts arm movement into supersonic speed and triggers a sonic boom called a whip crack.

Bullwhip Cracking: The Volley

Here's a video giving a little more information on how to do the volley. I'm using a 16-plait 6 ft kangaroo bullwhip that I made. I currently hold the Guinness World Record for the most bullwhip cracks in a minute, and this is the whip I used. The volley is best done with a well-made whip, with firm plaiting, 4-7 ft long if a bullwhip, or 3-6 ft long if a stockwhip. If your whip is really supple, like a wet noodle, or a piece of rope, you will find the volley difficult to do well.

Bullwhip Cracking: the Flick

Bullwhip Cracking: the Fast Figure-8

Here's a quick how-to video explaining the whip crack known as the fast figure-8. I'm using an 8 ft Indy-on-a-Budget bullwhip which I made and I've been selling them through my website www.winrichwhips.com. For an extra challenge, try putting together a combination of the slow figure-8, the fast figure-8, and the volley. Do one of the patterns, and then, without letting the whip stop, go right into the next pattern. Visit my MySpace page: www.myspace.com/adamwinrich

Cracking the Indy-on-a-budget Bullwhip

Here is a little routine demonstrating the Indy-on-a-budget bullwhip. It's meant to be amusing, showing how a whip can be a 'pet'. I take the whip for a walk, order it to 'sit', 'lay down', and 'stay'. The whip also rolls over and 'speaks'. The string on the end of the whip that helps the whip crack is called a 'cracker', and crackers do wear out, hence 'the whip eats crackers'. Check out www.winrichwhips.com for more info on the Indy-on-a-budget bullwhip, handmade by me.

Bullwhip Cracking: how to open a can of rootbeer

In this video I demonstrate how a full can of rootbeer can be cut in half with a whip. I'm using a 6 ft stockwhip. This video was kindly shot and edited by Jack Dagger: The King of Fling, knife thrower extraordinaire. Check out www.jackdagger.com.

Cutting Targets with Bull Whip

The whip I am using is a roo-hide 6-ft 16-plait bull whip. The targets were cut out of construction paper using a big guillotine paper cutter. The target stand was built from PVC tubing; it is collapsible and fits in hand bag. White targets show up better with my camcorder than orange targets, even though its the other way when you just look at them. The skilled and expedient assistant is my friend, Anese, who just put up some videos of her own.

Bullwhip Cracking: the slow figure 8

Here's a video I threw together to describe how to do the slow figure 8. This crack essentially combines the cattleman's crack with the reverse cattleman's crack. While I use a stockwhip in this video, it can also be done with a bullwhip.
