Cataract Gorge in flood after heavy rain in August 2009. This video taken on August 14th and shows the First Basin area - normally a tranquil spot with green lawn and a swimming pool - all completely submerged in swirling floodwater.

Launceston's famous Cataract Gorge is a spectacular site after heavy rainfall in the mountains, when for several days, the floodwaters roar down the Gorge, attracting many onlookers. This particular flood surge occurred on 1st September 2005 and was running under the Alexandra Suspension Bridge level with the tower bases concrete foundations. The largest recorded flood was in 1929 and the floodwaters surged into the first Basin level with the suspension bridge.

Launcestons Cataract Gorge Walk Tasmania, where me and Yetti went for a walk. It was 31oC on the Thurs 7th March 1991 and hot and humid in the Gorge, hardly no breeze gets in there on hot days to cool you down. It was hard work ard tiring filming in the heat with a National Panasonic M7 Video Camera at the time, as it was quite heavy to carry! Its a beautiful walk right in the heart of Launceston!

While in Tasmania for our friends' wedding, and having heard parts of Tasmania had received a little rain, we decided to head to Cataract Gorge outside Launceston. We expected a tranquil place with a swimming pool and a lawn, but arrived to find a very different sight!

I just came in to Tassie by plane from Brisbane the day before. Shows some of the redevopment going on replacing the old kiosk and kids playground (Monday 17th August 2009)
