Antimicrobial Disinfection http://www.teflex.org

http://www.teflex.org Teflex is a revolutionary new type of disinfectant, capable of ensuring an environment free of pathogenic influence. The active ingredient involved in Teflex's antimicrobial properties is a guanidine based copolymer. The germicidal function is attributed to the ability of the guanidine functional groups of the Teflex polymer bonding with the cellular membranes of pathogenic microbes. Upon bonding, the guanidine functional group infiltrates the cell's cytoplasm and inhibits the cell's regulatory functions. These functions include: enzymatic activity; the transfer of essential nutrients across the cell membrane; cellular respiration; and the multiplication of the microbe. The disruption of the cell's regulatory tasks is such that the cells can no longer function the way that they need to in order to stay alive; ultimately resulting in cell death. http://www.bustmold.com

Recall of Enteryx Injections for GERD (Dec. 2005)

FDA recently issued Public Health Notification about serious adverse events, including death, occurring with Enteryx, a product made by Boston Scientific that's used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Enteryx is a liquid copolymer that's injected into the muscle layer of the lower esophageal sphincter. Shortly after injection, it solidifies into a spongy material that acts as a physical barrier to help prevent reflux. Once injected, the material can not be removed. The serious adverse events involved unrecognized transmural injections of Enteryx i.e., cases where the injection needle may have penetrated the esophageal wall, injecting the material into the wall of the aorta, the mediastinum and the pleural cavity. In some cases, this was not recognized until several weeks after the injection took place. There were other cases where injury occurred even though the Enteryx was not injected transmurally. These injuries included serious mediastinal events and esophageal stenosis. The manufacturer of Enteryx, Boston Scientific, has recalled all Enteryx products. Physicians should stop using the products immediately and return unused product to the company. If it's suspected that a patient had a transmural injection, then the patient should be carefully monitored for for chest or epigastric pain, flu-like respiratory symptoms, syncope or flank pain at least 30 days. Even if transmural injection isn't suspected, patients should still be told keep up with their regularly scheduled appointments and to watch for and report symptoms. If symptoms do occur, x-ray or CT exams should be done to rule out transmural injection. Patients should be told to go to an emergency room immediately if they experience chest pain or syncope. Rohm and Haas Introduces Duraplus™ MP Emulsion

Rohm and Haas has launched a new innovative binder, Duraplus MP Emulsion, to the North American floor finish market. This new multi-purpose, styrene-acrylic water-borne copolymer can be formulated to meet the toughest VOC standards and still outperform traditional solvent and waterborne semi-transparent stain technologies. Floor finishes based on Rhoplex MP emulsion are recommended for periodic and high-maintenance environments, such as supermarkets, non-food retail, and office building lobbies. They provide outstanding appearance, gloss retention, superior repairability, recoatability, and are APEO free. Floor finish manufacturers can formulate polishes that can be applied at floor temperatures of 50 degrees F. (10 degrees C.) and above. For more information visit us @ go.rohmhaas.com/duraplusmp

Polystyrene

Polystyrene is an amorphous, glassy polymer that is generally rigid and relatively inexpensive. Unfilled polystyrene has a sparkle appearance and is often referred to as crystal PS or general purpose polystyrene (GPPS). High impact polystyrene grades (HIPS) are produced by adding rubber or butadiene copolymer which increases the toughness and impact strength of the polymer. Polystyrenes possess good flow properties at temperatures safely below degradation ranges, and can easily be extruded, injection molded, or compression molded. Considerable quantities of polystyrene are produced in the form of heat-expandable beads containing a suitable blowing agent which ultimately results in familiar foamed polystyrene articles.

Gamma Fishing Lines

Choosing the proper fishing line has become quite a difficult task. There are more choices than ever and if you believe all the hype that goes along with them, it gets even more confusing. At GAMMA Technologies we believe that providing a superior product is the only answer. GAMMA has been at the forefront in copolymer filament research and design for over 25 years and is the only company producing a "processed line." This processing involves patented and proprietary steps that alter the molecular structure of the polymer to produce a line that outperforms the competition. GAMMA high performance line provides the maximum combination of strength, tenacity, castability, and sensitivity. The built-in suppleness and sensitivity characteristics allow for a more natural presentation for both bait and lures while the fighting capability allows more and bigger fish to be landed. Casting comparison tests confirm that GAMMA high performance line casts smoother and up to 50% further than other leading brands. Whether you fish the tournaments or just for recreation, your time on the water is too valuable to be compromised by your lines performance. Choose GAMMA's competition grade high performance line and start catching more fish!

Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE)

Thermoplastics Elastomers are a family of polymers that can be repeatedly stretched without permanently deforming the shape of the part. Unlike rubber-like elastomers, they do not require curing or vulcanization, as they are true thermoplastics. Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) may be processed by conventional thermoplastic techniques such as injection molding, extrusion and blow molding. Thermoplastic elastomers have replaced rubber in many applications, most importantly the automotive industry. There are six main thermoplastic elastomer groups found commercially; styrenic block copolymers, polyolefin blends (TPOs), elastomeric alloys, thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs), thermoplastic copolyesters and thermoplastic polyamides

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a widely used thermoplastic resin. Globally, more than 50% of PVC manufactured is used in construction. As a building material, PVC is cheap, durable, and easy to assemble. In recent years, PVC has been replacing traditional building materials such as wood, concrete and clay in many areas. Polyvinyl Chloride is a polymer made by the catalytic polymerization of vinyl chloride. PVC also includes copolymers that contain at least 50% vinyl chloride. The neat homopolymer is hard, brittle and difficult to process, but it becomes flexible when plasticized. Polyvinyl chloride molding compounds can be extruded, injection molded, compression molded, calendered, and blow molded to form a huge variety of products, either rigid or flexible depending on the amount and type of plasticizers used. There are more compounding recipes for PVC than for any other polymer. Rigid PVC is strong, difficult to burn, has excellent resistance to strong acids and bases, to most other chemicals, and to many organic solvents. Additionally, polyvinyl chloride is one of the least expensive plastics.
