Culebra, Puerto Rico, June 2008. Day one: took the ferry from Fajardo. Got the Jeep and off to Flamenco Beach, casual snorkeling (too lazy to go to Playa Carlos Rosario over the ridge). Day two: Playa Zoni and some amazing snorkeling. The damn camera didn't record it! Culebra, even with its dryer climate, still enjoys the red glow of the Flamboyan tree. Mariachi Campanas de America perform La Culebra for Festival Folklorico @ Fiesta Texas. For this production extra musicians were auditioned to add to the show. Festival Folklorico was produced by Fiesta Texas and Campanas de America and directed and written by Belle Ortiz, Juan Ortiz, and Anthony Medrano.

This is a video of the crazy landing on Culebra, the small Island off the East coast of Puerto Rico. It is actually much more scary than it appears on the video. Ahh... on the way to Flamenco Beach.

We took a small 8 seat passenger plane to Culebra Island off the coast of Puerto Rico. It's a short flight of about 15 minutes with a fantastic view. The landing is quite challenging. You go through a narrow pass in a small mountain range and hug the right hand side and then a pretty sharp left turn to make the runway. Disneyland has nothing on this ride.

Watch Berta Corzo masterfully rolling a Culebra. Berta has worked as a torcedora in El Laguito cigar factory, the home of Cohiba, in Havana, for over 25 years. During taht time, Berta has perfected her skills into rolling every vitola and is now responsible for the quality control in the factory.
