UP DDA40X 6936 on the Adams Subdivision 4/17/2008

Union Pacific's last operating 8-axle giant, EMD DDA40X #6936, leads a business & inspection special westbound across Wisconsin. The train is seen first at County Highway A/G in the town of Brooks, then coming into Adams at the Main Street crossing, and finally leaving the yard for points west. Video by my dad.

DDA40X Centennial Engine 6936 - Elkhorn Slough, California

Union Pacific's DDA40X Centenial Engine 6936, the last running engine of its kind, hauls an executive special through the Elkhorn Slough in California on April 8th 2008 at 4:40PM Taken From the Back of My Toyota Tacoma Pickup Truck Thanks For Watching and Enjoy! *Copyright USA Rail Productions 2008

Inside the Cab of The Centennial DDA40X

I'm standing behind the recently installed video event recorder in the cab of the 6936. The turntable is turning, so you'll get to see the WP #2001 (first EMD GP20 ever built), 2 UP cupola cabooses, a passing train, and part of the Dunsmuir Railroad Days exhibits. You'll also get to see (and hear) Portola Railroad Museum volunteer Seth blow the horn of the Centennial.

UP 6936 DDA40X Walk around at the Portola museum Sep 2009

Union Pacific DDA40X Centennials 6936 and 6946 back to back in Portola 09/2009. 6936 is running and that is what most of this video is of. I walk by 6946 once and the sound you hear is from a running locomotive behind me, not 6946.

DDA40X (or DD-40-X) Closer Look

The idling double diesels are more audible, as I'm standing closer. The video takes a closer look at the trucks, fuel tanks, radiator grills, etc. The zoom in the cab area clearly shows "DD-40-X" painted... so which is it? C45AC #5439, which I chased earlier, passes by in the meantime.

Walking the Walk on the DDA40X 6936

This is the video of my walking on the walkway from the front blower duct to the rear blower duct, going through the opening in the middle of the DDA40X, at the Dunsmuir Railroad Days.

Union Pacific DDA40X Meets BNSF ES44DC at Virgilia Siding

The Portola Railroad Museum Special led by UP DDA40X, Western Pacific GP20, and F7 B&A units is greeted by an ACF Centerflow train led by BNSF ES44DC, GP60M, and C44-9W. This is at Virgilia in the beautiful Feather River Canyon.

Walking to the Rear of DDA40X (DD40X)

This is a low-tech video of my walking toward the back of the DDA40X #6936 at Roseville, at dusk. No image stabilizers or special moving platforms that movie and video producers use.

Union Pacific DDA40X 6936 on Inspection Train in Texas

On Feb. 18, 2008, UP operated an SAVBL inspection train powered by DDA40X 6936. This video shows it between Houston and Bloomington, TX.

More DDA40X, More Nathan M5

I took this video last July when I chased the #6936 pulling the Portola Railroad Museum Special into the Feather River Canyon. First clip is at Lower Honcut Rd., between Marysville and Oroville. The Centennial is slowing down due to a red light ahead. This gave me time to drive two crossings ahead to Central House Rd., where I took the second clip. The Centennial is accelerating after clearing the siding and the red light. The Nathan M5 sounds more muted, since there's no canyon nearby to ...

Union Pacific DDA40X Turning at Dunsmuir Railroad Days

The largest diesel locomotive ever built at 98 feet long fits quite nicely on the turntable in Dunsmuir.

Re: DDA40X & Portola Railroad Museum Special at James

After going under Highway 70 at James, the tracks loop around the hill, into the tunnel, then come back to Highway 70 within yards from where they first crossed the highway. A doublestack train waits for the DDA40X and the Portola Railroad Museum Special to crawl out of the tunnel, through the lights, the switches, and the siding. This video was taken in July 2007.

DDA40X, GP20, F7 at Pulga, Feather River Canyon

The Portola Railroad Museum special with Union Pacific DDA40X, Western Pacific GP20, F7 A&B units, Feather River Society passenger cars, UP Business car, flat car, WP Boxcar, two UP cupola cabooses, gondola, and WP Bay Window caboose are approaching the famous double bridges at Pulga in Feather River Canyon. If you look carefully, there are kids nearby as the Centennial comes around the blind corner - luckily, the kids walked off the tracks as they heard the echoes of the double diesels in ...

Bidding Farewell to DDA40X at the Keddie Wye

I stopped chasing the Portola Railroad Museum Special through the Feather River Canyon at the famous Keddie Wye. The odd horn you hear is from someone honking it from the caboose.

UP DDA40X In Action, Cheyenne, WY, 1984

The DDA40X diesel locomotive was the largest land machine at 6600 horsepower. In 1984, the UP took 25 units out of storage and reinstated them as active locomotives. I travelled west to capture them in action in VHS.

DDA40X-6922 UP HO scale

DDA40X #6922 Union Pacific HO Scale. This is Bachmann locomotive. But unfortunately it is no longer in production. Also on the layout are BN GP30, BNSF Dash 9-44CW and 2-10-0 Russian Decapod Atlantic Coast Line Bachmann Spectrum Steam locomotive.

Bachmann DDA40X (NEW RELEASE) with QSI Revolution

This is the recently released Bachmann DCC on Board DDA40x engine. It comes with 2 motors and 1 board which controls both motors, all wheel pickup, and operating beacon. I hacked off the operating beacon, stock horns, and firecracker antenna. I removed the stock DCC board (comes with 8 pin connection). I replaced the board with a QSI Revolution with GP38 and Leslie S3 horns. I will be adding an AC unit, new firecracker and Details West beacon to the engine. I added some Microscale decals. I ...

Union Pacific's beast: DDA40X HO Scale

WARNING:Contains some drama. I wasn't kidding when I decided to do this. Check out my Union Pacific engine. I call it the beast because it's my biggest train in my collection. Enjoy. EDIT: I've added some annotations to point out a few obscure facts about this engine.
