Dartmouth Night was inaugurated by President William Jewett Tucker in September of 1895 to celebrate the accomplishments of alumni, promote class spirit andinitiate freshmen into the community. It includes a parade, speeches, bonfire, and the next day, a football game. First-year students run around the bonfire with their classmates.

Dartmouth students dance as bluegrass band Rambling Grass plays a medley of traditional songs in Collis Common Ground.
