Brightly coloured diurnal moth (Pterodecta felderi) in the Callidulidae family, visiting cherry blossoms for nectar. Early-May 2008 in Japan. The Japanese name is "ikari-mon-ga" which literally means an "anchor-marked moth" since the conspicuous orange pattern on the underside of its forewing appears an anchor (= "ikari") like Popeye's arm tattoo. I bet even those who have mothphobias would love this one. It looks rather like a pretty butterfly. 花札の絵柄になりそうな組み合わせだと思いませんか？　綺麗な蝶と比べて地味で汚らしいなど毛嫌いされがちな蛾ですけど、なかにはカラフルな種類もいます。蛾は莫大な種数を誇り驚くほど多様性に富むグループなので、嫌いな人も「蛾！」で十把一絡にせず一つずつ冷静に見てもらいたいものです。蛾の図鑑をめくれば、あなたもきっとお気に入りの美しい蛾が見つかるでしょう。

I've told you DFBHD players about my day-night cycle .wac in the Novaworld forums, and now I'm showing you what it looks like. I'm sure I have to explain to some of you that this .wac is extremely sped up, but I've written it so that by changing a single variable, you can adjust the length of the cycle to suit your taste, anywhere from 24 seconds up to an actual 24 hours.

This animation shows how the apparent daily motion of the stars about the earth is created by the rotation of the earth.

.wac files are script files used to enhance many things in the missions and maps for the game Delta Force: Black Hawk Down. One thing you can control with .wac files is environmental lighting. This is the less boring demonstration video of my day-night cycle .wac.

I often wonder how and why Donizatti lost his mind gradually, during and after his composition of Lucia di Lammermoor. When I think of this, my mind recalls many other names, Woolf, Hemmingway, Keats among all the other afflicted souls. Indeed Lucia is beautiful but rare; but compare to Edgardo, Lucia is like the foams in the ocean, waiting for and fearing of the storms, while Edgardo is like a rainbow, even more fragile and diurnal. Maurizio Primo's debut fight. Coming onto the TKD stage with the punishing bruising kick! The common adder is a true viper that has a short temper and often strikes without hesitation. This is mainly a diurnal species, especially in the north of its range. Further south it is said to be active in the evening, and it may even be active at night during the summer months. Its venom is hemotoxic, destroying blood cells and causing tissue damage. Local symptoms include immediate and intense pain, followed after a few minutes (but perhaps by as much as 30 minutes) by swelling and a tingling sensation. The pain may spread within a few hours, along with tenderness and inflammation. Reddish lines and bruising may appear, and the whole limb can become swollen and bruised within 24 hours. Swelling may also spread to the trunk, and with smaller individuals, throughout the entire body. In much of southern Europe, such as northern Italy, it is found in either low lying wetlands or at high altitudes.

Here are some shots of Osprey who nest in East Providence, RI. I visited this spot last year. Last year these two were just hatchlins, Osprey (Pandion haliaetus), also known colloquially as seahawk, fish hawk or fish eagle, is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey. It is a large raptor, reaching 60 centimetres (24 in) in length with a 1.8 metre (6 ft) wingspan. It is brown on the upperparts and predominantly whitish on the head and underparts, with a brownish eyepatch and wings. The Osprey tolerates a wide variety of habitats, nesting in any location near a body of water providing an adequate food supply. It is found on all continents except Antarctica although in South America it occurs only as a non-breeding migrant. As its other common names suggest, the Osprey's diet consists almost exclusively of fish. It has evolved specialised physical characteristics and exhibits some unique behaviours to assist in hunting and catching prey. As a result of these unique characteristics, it has been given its own taxonomic genus, Pandion and family, Pandionidae. Four subspecies are usually recognised. Despite its propensity to nest near water, the Osprey is not a sea-eagle.

Tortoises or land turtles are land-dwelling reptiles of the family of Testudinidae, order Testudines. Like their marine cousins, the sea turtles, tortoises are shielded from predators by a shell. The top part of the shell is the carapace, the underside is the plastron, and the two are connected by the bridge. The tortoise has both an endoskeleton and an exoskeleton. Tortoises can vary in size from a few centimeters to two meters. Tortoises tend to be diurnal animals with tendencies to be crepuscular depending on the ambient temperatures. They are generally reclusive animals. The biggest operational difference between tortoises and turtles is that tortoises are unable to swim; indeed, they cannot float, whereas turtles can.

For a few years there has been Cooper's Hawks that visit Saco Factory Island, with its abundant Pigeon supply and large mills to perch upon. I've given this hawk the nickname D.B. because I think it has $200,000 stashed somewhere on the island ;) Typically, you get a quick glimpse of it flying through the parking area or you see its silhouette in the trees feasting on a pigeon. Sometimes you can see the other birds scatter and see it fly quickly by the river or the mills on the Biddeford side of the river. But on June 19, 2008... this bird was patient with me and let me film it from several angles over the course of an hour and a half. Here are six minutes worth of video taken from a 3rd floor window, from the parking lot and from directly beneath the bird.
