Did you know that old games on Nintendo and Sega played slower in PAL countries? I never thought about it before, but apparently because the PAL area television sets are 50Hz, games made with 60Hz tvs in mind played slower due to the framerate difference. Sega fixed their games for PAL areas very early on after only a few games released while Nintendo took it's time before they even bothered to care, but these days games are naturally made to work with the televisions they're supposed to ...
