Over the Weekend of 11/13th September 2009, the Great Central Railway held their annual Autumn Diesel Gala, this year featuring star guests Deltic No.55 019 and Class 50 No.50 007. The visit of the Class 50 made GCR history as this class had never operated on the line before so this was a first. The weekend before the Annual Spectacular GCR/Steam Railway Gala on October 9-11 saw a smaller special event. One of the guests to the 'Heavy Metal Gala' next week, WD 2-8-0 90733 (from the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway) joined the two locomotives of the same wheel arrangement that are normally resident on the GCR for what the line called 'A Parade of 2-8-0s'. Matt Allen and Warwick Falconer organised a popular charter featuring visiting Fairburn tank 42085 from the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. Unfortunately the only time the sun appeared was at lunchtime and then only very briefly. NB The locations on the viaduct at Swithland are out of bounds on normal running days. We were able to photograph there only because we had full possession of the line.

Over the weekend of the 25th-26th July 2009, the Great Central Railway held their annual Summer 'Mail By Rail' Gala featuring a feast of non stop high speed mail drops. The star had to be newly overhauled and restored Fairburn Tank No.42085 on long term loan from the Lakeside & Havertwaite Railway making it's debut Post Office run for the first time in preservation, and what a drop off it was! 4 big locos starred in the 3-day GCR autumn event: SR 850 Lord Nelson, Jubilee Class 5690 Leander, newly restored Britannia class 70013 Oliver Cromwell and new build A1 60163 Tornado

Plenty of steam at the GCR today, but was it dull! Beforehand we sacrificed 7 virgins and 12 sheep to be granted good weather, but even that didn't work. Clive even wore his hat! 70013 Oliver Cromwell aka 70048 in action at Loughborough, Quorn and Kinchley Lane; Standard 2 78019 in action at Woodthorpe, Quorn and Loughborough.

The Great Central Railways 'Days Out With Thomas' weekend. The GCR holds three Thomas Weekends over the year, one in February, May and August. Since I am a menber of the Soar Valley Model Railway Club, we take an Interactive Thomas & Friends Layout (at Quorn Station) to raise money for Rainbows Childrens Hospice at these Thomas events and it is also a good time for me to try out a few new camera angles in readiness for any major Galas etc. like the forth coming 40th Anniversary Gala ...

Great Central Railway's winter steam gala, Saturday 31st Jan 09

Fairburn Tank no. 42085 from the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway was the star loco for this Gala with the N2 tank (1744) being 'saved for the mid-August Tank Gala. The loco was joined by SR King Arthur Class 30777 "Sir Lamiel", 8F 48305 and Standard 2 78019. Unfortunately the gaps in the schedule left space for three diesel locomotives which get an airing in this video if only as opportunities to see some shots in the sun.

Greate Central Railways 1940's gala part 1, features early morning on shed action opening with Penny doing a classic introduction on the first take, then we go in Shed to see the N2 and fairburn. Then a close look at Sir Lamiel, just catching the 8F coming of shed in the distance. Finaly we see Sir Lamiel coming of shed before cutting to swithland to see Sir Lamiel and the 8F pass.
