We went fishing in the Gulf of Mexico at the mouth of the Homosassa River near Homosassa, Florida, on November 27, 2009. It was our first un-guided trip for Gulf fishing. The 'Flats' are treacherous because there is very shallow water over oyster bars that can damage the boat hull and motor, so you need to know the waters. We didn't, so we stayed close to the channel markers, probably not the best place to catch a fish. But, we managed to hook 3 Speckled Trout, one a very nice 22" one. It ...
