Red Blood Cells in Hypotonic Solution

Red blood cells are suspended in a 0.85% saline solution. Distilled water is added slowly. Immediately upon addition of distilled water, blood cells blow up entirely, or suffer tears in their cellular membranes, thereby creating perfectly round, empty cells which are free of hemoglobin. We call these "ghost" cells, and they are visible at the end of the video.

Hypotonic, Hypertonic, and Isotonic!

Ghost Blood Cells

These blood cells are in a hypotonic solution. The membranes around the blood cells got leaky from being stretched out in the hypotonic solution, but didn't blow altogether, and so these are hemoglobin free compartments, or "ghosts".

cellular Fitness: From the Lab to the Gym

In this video, we take a trip to the gym to show how drinking gatorade while exercising as opposed to drinking water, benefits your body. It is important to know that water moves from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration which is called osmosis. Most living systems are aquaeous and water and solutes have to be equally distributed on each side of the cellular compartment. This is how homeostasis is maintained. We examine the differences in water concentrations between different solutions and relate back to how a hypotonic solution has a low solute concentration while a hypertonic solution has a high concentration. Osmosis - special case of diffusion

My first video animation that tells about the process of osmosis. Its a project for my Biomedical Engineering transport class. The more people watch this video, the more points we get. Thanks for watching. NICE comments and ratings will be appreciated.

Egg Osmosis Part Two

The conclusion of the egg osmosis experiment. The results will astound you... well they might at least be interesting.

Down Syndrome Babies Increased Life Performance

Down Syndrome is a non rare syndrome (3-5 babes per 1000 alive delivering) which has low mental performance like this, cardiac defects, gastrointestinal defects and hypotonic muscle capacities. These children have very very high power to increase their mind, memory, mental performance with a regularly education, exercise and some medicamentous approach methods. When we support them, they can show a great improvement on their mental and physical performance. These children can go to the playground, school or playing places. These babes can go to the market for buying somethings what you want. This is a 5 yrs old girl. She had a cardiac operation with total heart defect at 15th month. But never has walked and eat enough untill to the 26 month. After the beginning of the therapy she begun to walk in the 2 months and went to private education, and after 5 months went to childgarden and integrated with normal babies. These videos taken the second time when she visited the playground. But every time she likes these places.

Playing with hypotonic baby

Re: gorgoroth incipit satan

A tributieifed infusion of subsidised electro-tectonic hypotonic beats, with a transpired gorgorothic intercept. Sorry the recording is not that great... but anything for Gorgoroth! For the true fans only. Play backwards for a dark... disturbing message

Selective Permeability

The cell membrane is the area between the cell and its environment. It allows nutrients like glucose, amino acids, and lipids into the cell, while it allows waste and other things out of the cell. It helps keeps the cell's homeostasis, while water freely moves in and out of the cell. The structure of the cell membrane is a phosphate bilayer, which are two layers of phospholipids. Phospholipids are made up of a glucose backbone, two fatty acid chains, and a phosphate head. With the phosphate bilaryer the phosphate heads stick out of the cell while the two fatty acids are inside. This is because the heads are hydrophilic which means they love water, while the fatty acids are hydrophobic which means they hate water. The plasma membrane is not only made up of the phosphates, it also has cholesterol molecules which stabilizes the membrane and protein transport which allows certain things in and out of the cell. There are two different kinds of cell transport. One is passive transport which uses no energy; an example of one is facilitated diffusion which is the ones in the cell. Then there is active transport, which uses energy allows ions into the cell which has a high concentration then where it was being pushed from. An example of active transport is endocytosis. The diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane is called osmosis. They balance both side of the membrane, such as an isotonic solution which has the same solution. Then there is hypotonic solution that is when there is more water inside the cell then outside the cell. Then finally there is hypertonic solution which there is more water outside the cell then inside which causes it to wrinkle. NOTE: This also includes cell Membrane located in another video.

A little light in the room.

This is a video of me in the light. There was very little light in the room and I used what there was. I was basically saying that I stayed up all night and I read about Biology; hypertonic, hypotonic, isotonic solutions. I didn't sleep at all. 11/17/2008 I put this one up here because I filmed this one on accident. I thought it would be special to add this to my vids.
