In 2008 the renowned composer and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda (Japan 1966) creates art projects for DREAM AMSTERDAM. Ikeda follows visual artist Spencer Tunick in 2007. SPECTRA :: AMSTERDAM is artist and composer Ryoji Ikeda's commission for DREAM AMSTERDAM 2008; his first project for a public space and his first large-scale work pushing the creative possibilities of light to its utmost extremes. Selected architectural features in industrial, civic and open public spaces emanate blinding white light for several hours every evening, in an unearthly, unforgettable experience. Visitors can navigate between the sites, connecting the distant points of a visceral urban constellation. Despite their scale, his light installations, like his concerts, provoke an intensely physical experience. Very powerful white lighting devices, such as the ones used in sports stadia are installed at four selected locations in the city: 1. Vondelpark | Music Pavilion 09:00 pm - 00:00 am (city district Oud-Zuid) 2. Van Gogh Museum | new exhibition wing 09:00 pm - 00:00 am Paulus Potterstraat 7 (city district Oud-Zuid] 3. Westergasfabriek | Water bassins 09:00 pm - 00:00 am Haarlemmerweg 6 - 10 (city district Westerpark] 4. Kop van het Java Eiland 09:00 pm - 02:00 am (city district Amsterdam Zeeburg] The installations map the city from North to South, West to East providing an intense experience to the viewers of the works. The 'colour temperature' of the light used for each of these installations has been carefully selected. Ikeda is using the purest white, causing the environment and structures in which they are installed to almost disappear or become invisible. The energy used for the light installations is generated from sustainable, recycled resources. This new installations follows other light works presented in several unique locations; an old factory in Milan (2001), Terminal 5 of JFK airport in New York (2004), and now four open-air locations across Amsterdam (June 2008). Each installation is designed and adapted to fit the characteristic and the scale of the site, using intensely bright white light. "A Legacy of Building Peace" Three men, from three different cultures and continents, sharing the same common path of profound dedication and achievement in improving the lives of all people. The exhibit features colorful photos, inspiring quotes, and factual information about Mohandas K. Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Daisaku Ikeda. Amidst chaotic times, they sought to forge an existence filled with dignity, freedom and happiness. Building Peace Without Violence The Gandhi-King-Ikeda exhibit is a internationally renowned exhibit extolling humanist virtues and its champions. Though Gandhi, King and Ikeda each came from different ethnic and religious backgrounds, they have all shared a common vision. They have each, in their respective lifetimes, fought for non-violence, human rights and world peace: Mohandas K. Gandhi led the campaign against the colonial rule of the British Empire, Martin Luther King fought against the injustices and prejudice built against people of color in America, and Daisaku Ikeda encourages millions of civilians in the world to live a life of dignity and to work for world peace. Gandhi, King, and Ikeda are men who have lived with principle, and who have based their action on non-violent means. The unique idea of having the three figures together as an exhibit is of particular significance because it reminds us that peace and justice exist beyond all human-laid boundaries.

SERIOUSLY.** A short-but-less-than-sweet remix of Iannis Xenakis' Persepolis [GRM Mix], which was written using 11 samples and juxtaposed across one-another; Persepolis is one of Xenakis' two (particularly) major electronic compositions, and this piece uses cues, glitches and samples from that piece to create something even MORE writhing and disturbing, as if that were possible. This is an extremely glitchy piece for most of its duration, so seriously, turn down your speakers. This upload is a request. You've likely heard this in a movie before.
