Intermezzo - Pietro Mascagni (Cavalleria Rusticana)
"Enlaço a terra -- umbigo e raiz -- E arrebato o sêmen. (Lea Madureira - Renascimento) . |

Glenn Gould: Brahms - Intermezzo op 117/1
1960 In the midst of his early recordings of Bach and Schoenberg and more Bach, Gould surprised many of his admirers by producing late in 1960 a collection of Brahms intermezzi. He might have impressed them by performing these beautifully windblown autumnal trifles in an austerely classical manner, but he indulged hemself instead in the most lavish and luscious romanticism. And he was proud of it. "I have received the test pressing of my latest recording - the first one made since the shoulder trouble - and I really think it is perhaps the best piano playing I have done..." he wrote to a friend in Berlin. "I think that you will be quite surprised not only with the repertoire but also with the style of playing which is, if I might say so, rather aristocratic. Come to think of it, I don't really think you will be surprised either. You know what an incurable romantic I am anyway." To an interviewer, Bernard Asbell, Gould called this "the sexiest interpretation of Brahms intermezzi you have ever heard." "How do you mean, 'sexiest'?" Asbell asked, "I have captured, I think, an atmosphere of improvisation which I don't believe has ever been represented in Brahms recordings before. There is a quality as though - this isn't an original comment, but something one of my friends said - as though I were really playing for myself, but left the door open. I think a lot of people are going to hate it, but..." "But you love it?" "Yes, I love it. This is one of the things I am most proud of." |

Madrid, to part of being the capital of Spain, is also an autonomous region, consisting of only one province.
