Lamanai is located in the north part of Belize in the Orange Walk District. Lamanai is accessible to tourists by organized day boat trips from Orange Walk Town along the new river. The first description of these ruins were made in 1917 and the site began archeological excavation at the site in 1974 under David M. Pendergast of the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Ontario, Canada), which continued until 1988. This city is known for the Maya Civilization, and has been documented over a millennium earlier by the Maya inscriptions. This is a family trip to the Lamanai ruins in Belize. The trip includes a one hour boat ride on the New River to and from the ruins.

We participated in a crocodile capture for research purposes in the New River Lagoon just off Lamanai Outpost Lodge in Belize. Our research guide shared tons of information about this and other crocs!

I took this footage while in Belize. We had to take an hour boat ride to get to Lamanai. The city's history is incredible--no human sacrifice, no warfare, & was the longest continuously occupied Mayan society, 1500 BC to 1700 AD.

We stayed at Lamanai Outpost Lodge in Belize. Living in the trees nearby was a family of black howler monkeys, including the male monkey with his signature cry, a female and several young ones.
