His style of playing was simple, highly tone-conscious and completely uncluttered by over-expressive angst. When I made this recording I was thinking of 1 beat in a bar, but looking at it again, a gentle three-in-bar would probably fit the music better. As some comments have suggested, this would mean easing back on the tempo. Try it and see!

I heard this on the radio today and was reminded of my favorite version of it. Its Walter Gieseking (1895-1956) playing Debussy's La Plus Que Lente for Brunswick in late 1925 or early 1926. Unfortunately, the sound is not good. I tried playing it on modern equipment but getting rid of the noise muffles the higher frequencies.
