I Kalpiki lira 1955. This is the fourth story of the movie. Elli Lambeti is the rich girl, Dimitris Horn is the struggling artist. They just got married and are deeply in love. They won the lira ("pound Stirling") coin at a new years gathering. They agree not to spend it, ever. Elli, in a natural tone, says to Horn : "S'agapo", "σ' αγαπώ" that means "I love you". He is inspired by listening to it and is asking her to keep saying "s' agapo" until her portrait is finished. But they fall on hard times, Elli leaves him, to marry a rich man and Horn had to finish the portrait without her. At some point Horn decides to sell the coin and he is told it is counterfeit. Dimitris Horn delivers the line of the movie at the art gallery, when Elli's rich husband asks how much was the portrait, because he wanted to buy it, Horn replies: "Unlike the model that posed for it, it is not for sale." When they meet again at the end of the clip, he is famous and successful. Elli tells him she still loves him, and she is happy that he succeeded in his career; he says he does love her, also. Yet, the reality is, she is married and has a family with someone else. A gut wrenching performance by Elli Lambeti. Kostas Theodoridis and Giorgos Tsaoulis were the cinematographers, Manos Hadjidakis composed the music, Dimitris Myrat was the narrator and Giorgos Tzavellas wrote the outstanding scenario and directed. One of the best examples of a bittersweet love story in Greek cinema and one of the all time best Greek movie classics.
