The Cedars of God (also known as the Cedars of the Lord or Arz el Rab or أرز الربّ in arabic ) are among the last survivors of the immense forests of the Cedars of Lebanon that thrived across Mount Lebanon in ancient times. Their timber was exploited by the Assyrians, Babylonians and Persians as well as the Phoenicians. El pinsapo (Abies pinsapo) es una especie arbórea del género Abies, perteneciente a la familia Pinaceae y de distribución muy restringida. Está emparentado con otras especies de abetos de distribución mediterránea. Los abetales naturales de esta especie (denominados pinsapares) únicamente se localizan en determinados puntos de la Serranía de Ronda, España, enclavada en el extremo occidental de la cordillera Bética (provincias de Málaga y Cádiz), y en el Rif marroquí, aunque algunos autores consideran al abeto marroquí una especie diferente (A. maroccana). La mayor parte de los pinsapares españoles se encuentran en áreas protegidas bajo alguna figura legal. El pinsapo fue descrito para la ciencia por el botánico suizo Edmund Boissier, en su obra Voyage botanique dans le Midi de l´Espagne (Viaje botánico por el sur de España), 1838.
