During Operation Lumberjack, on March 7, 1945, troops of the U.S. Army's 9th Armored Division reached one of the two damaged but intact bridges over the Rhine (a railway bridge in Wesel in today's North Rhine-Westphalia was the other one), after German defenders failed to demolish it, despite several attempts. The fuses of the explosives were cut by two Polish engineers from Silesia, forcibly conscripted into the Wehrmacht.Sergeant Alexander A. Drabik of Holland, Ohio was the first American soldier to cross the bridge, thereby becoming the first American soldier to cross the Rhine River into Germany.

That's the eastside of the bridge at remagen very close to the small city named "Erpel". Behind the bridge on this side there is a railway tunnel (to see 20 seconds after the clip started). Today the runnel is out of order. This is part 2 of the video. There is also a part 1 where you can see the bridge form the Westside (Remagen). Dies ist die Ostseite der Brücke von Remagen sehr nahe an der kleinen Stadt Erpel. Auf dieser Seite hinter der Brücke befindet sich noch ein Eisenbahntunnel (zu sehen 20 Sekunden nachdem das Video gestartet ist). Der Tunnel ist in der heutigen Zeit aber nicht mehr in Betrieb.
