HD Available: January 19, 2009: NS SD80MAC 7207 and 7204 escape the grasp of the NS "west slope" and are seen as power for local H48. The train is first seen heading west by the feedmill at HP 77.2, with a great P5 horn on the 7207. This train, oddly enough, came back east as light power; 7204 has a great Leslie RS-3L as it passes over the HP 64.6 detector in Sinking Springs. Here's some video I shot of my O scale train layout around the Christmas tree in 2008. Running on the layout is my Lionel LionMaster SD80MAC in Norfolk Southern livery, #7203. The loco features Lionel RailSounds and TrainMaster Command Control. The consist features both Lionel and MTH scale freight cars, five of which were included with the locomotive in Lionel's "Black Diamond Freight" set of 2005.

American Electric unit train with Conrail SD80MAC passes through what's left of the Dent Yard in Cornettsville, Ky. At one time the Dent Yard on the L&N EK sub. was used to combine the strings of hoppers from various mine runs in the area. I paced this train off and on from Letcher County. It also had a caboose on the end of it. I stuck a video response on this page for the short clip that shows the caboose.

Listen to this 5000 hp locomotive! Conrail was the only railroad to receive an order for the SD80MAC locomotive, making many of its features Conrail specific, such as recessed red nose marker lights. The SD80MAC itself is a 5000hp road diesel, and was the first EMD locomotive to use a 20 cylinder engine (vs. the normal 16) since the SD45-2. Possibly the EMD rival product to the General Electric C44-9W Heavy-duty Diesel Electric Locomotive. This one is the EMD SD70MAC Diesel Locomotive in Conrail Blue Livery, A freeware add-on locomotive for Microsoft Train Simulator made by the Canadian add-on maker Streamlines. This locomotive add-on is preset to automatically use the cabview from the MSTS default BNSF GE Dash 9 locomotives and the EMD GP38-2 for the sounds when you download and install the locomotive on an "as-is" basis. CSX Q415-17 heads westbound with a big power team today. Lead by CSX CW60AC units #691 and 630 and SD80MAC's #4602 and 4592 this train has a lot of horse power. Note the lead engine rocking as it switches over to the branch.

One of my favorite locomotives is the EMD SD80MAC. I saw them in Altoona back in 1996 when they were new being tested between Conway and Altoona. I caught them at Altoona, Cresson and one shot on Horseshoe Curve. I Was surprised after the Conrail split up to find them in service on CSX in Brunswick, Md area. CSX Q409-19 westbound on the Alexandria Extension in Hyattsville MD with leader CSX ES44DC #5369 and SD80MAC #4600 with another 100+ car train. Watch the next to last car on the train. It is a private passenger car with "Southerner" on written on the side. Nice little bonus.
