Fidel used the mountains around here during the revolution...There are monuments all the way to Santiago de Cuba City for the Heros of Cuba. It took about 30-45 minutes from Club Bucanero.

February 25, 2009, our last full day in Cuba had arrived. I had spent the night in Santiago and my local Cuban friends Maria and Manolo were ready to continue to be my tour guides. I received a nice omelette for breakfast and Manolo explained that he had not had milk for years. Cuba experiences severe food shortages, and milk in particular is in short supply. ForFebruary 21, 2009 we had planned an excursion into the city of Santiago de Cuba. One of the local hotel employees had taken a day off and agreed to take us around his city. He came to pick us up at 6:30 am and we took the resort workers' bus into town. Our resort was pretty remote and there was not public transport and taxis were too expensive. We decided to go horse-back riding and went to our local friend Cheno who was stationed outside of the resort with his horses Careta and Muneca.
