Brothers at Arms - Eritrea
March 1999 For months whilst the world focussed its attention on the conflict in Kosovo, Ethiopia and Eritrea fought a bloody war over a few thousand kilometres of scrubland. This wasn't a conflict of precision bombing and 'zero deaths', but of a trench warfare and human waves mown down by gunfire. tens of thousands have died. But these two countries share many ties of friendship ad heritage. This film shows how these ties have only increased hatred. Former comrades in arms now face each other across the fornt-line, and all feel betrayed. There have been mass deportations of eritreans from Ethiopia - we meet one man who has had to leave behind his Ethiopian wife and family to come back to a country he does not know. |

WW2 GHOSTS ON HAUNTED AIRFIELD
We recently returned once more to the haunted airfield which lays abandoned in scrubland some miles from the nearest habitat. Some unusual clips were filmed during this investigation, and for the first time EVP was captured from what sounds to be a low flying WW2 bomber. It is worth noting that no flights commercial or otherwise fly over this location during the night - especially a very low flying aircraft. The airfield was last used as a bomber base in 1945. No other aircraft have since been based or flown from here. It is unlikely that a large piston engined aircraft could have flown over the site. Special thanks to: Dee, Jill, Richard and Tim for joining in! WEBSITE: http://haunted-earth.org/h/ |

California Blaze Threatens 2,000 Homes
LOS ANGELES (AFP) — A man-made wildfire raged near California's Yosemite National Park on Monday, threatening thousands of homes in the latest large-scale blaze to ravage the state, officials said. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CALFIRE) said 2,000 homes were at risk from the fire, which has already gutted 12 homes, scorched 26,130 acres (10,574 hectares), and injured three people. The blaze -- which was triggered by people target shooting on Friday -- is burning in the rugged forest and scrubland of the Sierra Nevada foothills in Mariposa county, around 25 miles (40 kilometers) west of Yosemite. Around 2,500 firefighters have been deployed to tackle the fire, which comes after a month-long firestorm across California that scorched more than one million acres (400,000 hectares) since June 20. California is frequently hit by scorching wildfires due to its dry climate, Santa Ana winds and recent housing booms which have seen housing spread rapidly into rural and densely forested areas. In October, devastating wildfires were among the worst in California history, leaving eight people dead, destroying 2,000 homes, displacing 640,000 people and causing one billion dollars in damage. Fight Over 900-Year-Old Temple
STORY: The foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand begin yet another round of talks to defuse the row over a Hindu temple and surrounding land to which both lay claim. The greeting in Phnom Penh appears warm but behind closed doors the two sides are talking tough. Cambodia is accusing Thailand of trying to send 500 troops across the disputed border and is warning of the prospect of what it calls large scale conflict. Thai officials in Bangkok are denying any attempted incursion at the spot where two Thai soldiers stepped on landmines earlier this month. Both sides have accused each other of unprovoked aggression in a stand-off that began in July. The row flared when the 900-year-old Preah Vihear temple became a UNESCO world heritage site. That irked Thai nationalists who still claim ownership of the temple. The International Court of Justice awarded the ruin to Cambodia in 1962 in a ruling that has rankled with many Thais ever since. It didn't rule on the 4.6 square kilometres of scrubland next to it on their joint border. |

Thailand and Cambodia Discuss Border Dispute
CHAN: The leaders and foreign ministers of Thailand and Cambodia met on the sidelines of an Asia-Europe summit in Beijing Friday. Both sides agreed to do everything possible to solve their border problem. STORY: The prime ministers and foreign ministers of Thailand and Cambodia aim to resolve the long-standing border dispute that recently claimed the lives of one Thai and three Cambodian soldiers. [Hor Namhong, Cambodian Foreign Minister]: "We should resort to all existing mechanism to solve the problem on the border. We should resend our purpose to avoid any more armed clashes in the future." The Thai foreign minister told reporters the two countries are not just neighbors but quote, "very good friends, indeed. [Sompong Amornvivat, Thai Foreign Minister]: "We believe that, you know, the two sides have to really advise our troops, you know each side, our troops, not to have confrontation any longer." Meanwhile, senior military officials met in Siem Reap, the site of Cambodia's Angkor temple, to discuss the fighting and other border issues. Customs and immigration officials from the two sides also attended. Both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding. National passions over the hilltop Preah Vihear temple have been stirred for generations. The International Court of Justice awarded the temple to Cambodia in 1962, but failed to determine who owned the 1.8 square miles of scrub land next to the Hindu ruins. |

Body Bonds Rehabilitation Project
The small island state of Antigua and Barbuda supports a range of globally and regionally significant terrestrial and marine habitats and species. Inadequate conservation, planning and management the states important, yet limited, resources has resulted in both a loss of species diversity and degradation of the functionality of the islands watersheds and other ecosystems (GoAB 2006). During the colonial era watersheds were denuded of native forest and scrubland vegetation. These impacts on watersheds have been compounded by unsustainable agro-pastoral practices (agro-chemical misuse, overgrazing and uncontrolled fires) as well as the introduction of invasive species (Cooper and Bowen 2001). Antigua and Barbudas watershed ecosystems have a finite capacity. Their degradation will lead to the deterioration in the quality of water for drinking and irrigation; deterioration in coastal water quality leading to reduced productivity in fisheries; topsoil losses and soil exhaustion with resultant lack of fertility; etc. In fact, the economic development of Antigua and Barbuda, which is based primarily upon tourism, is highly dependent upon the quality of the ecological functions of watersheds and other ecosystems as well as other physical processes throughout the Islands. In short, the lack of strategic planning for watershed resource management and an overall lack of understanding of the finite nature of natural resources including those derived from watersheds is resulting in a degradation of ecosystem functions, which will lead to a decline in quality of life. The effects of global climate change only add to this equation. Although these concerns hold true for all populations in any part of the globe, in the small island context there is little to act as a buffer to such changes and the results of ecosystem stress and decay can be seen and felt more quickly and more tangibly. This Project will aim to develop an Integrated Watershed Management System for Antigua and Barbuda. Such a system considers the islands watershed ecosystems and their resources as capital assets, which, if properly managed and protected, will continue to yield a flow of vital goods and services necessary components for sustainable economic development. |

MagicalKenya - Tana River Delta
On the remote shores of Kenya's far Northern coast, the mighty waters of the Tana River meet the sea in a massive River Delta. This isolated region is a truly unique location, where the great inland wilderness of the North meets the beauty of the coast. The Tana delta is a place of spectacular panoramic views, encompassing a scrubland teeming with game and birds and the endless rolling sands of deserted beaches. Here you can experience the best of both worlds, spending the morning exploring a river filled with hippo and crocodile by canoe, and swimming in the blue waters of the Indian Ocean in the afternoon. This is the perfect destination for those looking for a safari with a difference. |

San Diego Zoo - Lynx - Part 1 of 3
Range: Eurasian lynx range from western Europe to northern Asia and the Middle East; Spanish lynx are found in Spain and Portugal; Canadian lynx and bobcat are found in North America Habitat: prairies and steppes, scrubland, temperate forests and taiga, and tundra, depending on species. The lynx is known by the tuft of black hair on the tips of its ears and its short, or "bobbed," tail. In fact, one species of lynx is called a bobcat! What's the purpose of those hair tufts on the ends of the ears? Some researchers think the lynx use them like whiskers to feel things around them. Others think maybe the tufts help the cat to hear well. All lynx also have a mane of longer hair around the face and neck. And the back legs are longer than the front legs, so the lynx looks a bit like it's tipped forward. Although considered part of the small cat grouping, the lynx is much larger than your average housecat-up to 84 pounds (38 kilograms). The four species of lynx are physically different from each other and have adapted to their various habitats. |

[HST] UFO Files - Majestic Twelve UFO Cover-Up-5.avi
Go to the limits of human experience...and beyond. From the fringes of the galaxy to our own backyards, the UFO FILES searches for evidence of life beyond our world. Tracing the long, convoluted history of UFO encounters and research, this unique series opens new windows into the controversial field. What really happened in Roswell, New Mexico in the summer of 1947? Did a flying saucer crash in the vast desert scrubland? The initial Army Air Force press release claimed they had recovered a flying disk. But a day later, the story dramatically changed--now they called it a weather balloon! In 1987, secret documents surfaced indicating the existence of the "Majestic 12"--an elite group of scientists and military and intelligence officials, allegedly brought together by President Harry Truman. Did the MJ-12 truly exist? If so, did these men forever trivialize the most talked-about UFO event in history, as well as all UFO sightings thereafter? |
