The elegant wagon concept will debut at the 2008 Paris Auto Show next month. Powered by Mercedes' latest four-cylinder diesel engine, Mercedes says this "design study" is intended to show that a coupe can have "fast, thrilling lines" and practicality at the same time. ConceptFASCINATION combines a refrigerated luggage compartment, lots of load space — and a humidor for cigar aficionados — with wood, aluminum and smoked glass interior trim. The exterior design is intended to convey "forward-flowing energy" thanks to its frameless side window line, sculpted wheel arches and wedge-shaped profile. There's also a central ridge in the hood to continue the V-shape theme and a chrome strip running around the lower body into which the front LED foglamps are set. Inside, luxurious materials "from the world of equestrianism" include woven fabrics and saddle-style leather on the aluminum center console, top of the dashboard and door armrests. Walnut and chrome trim are also plentiful inside, and the V theme is continued with the "dynamic wing" styling of the dashboard. Mercedes-Benz says the ConceptFASCINATION is its 21st-century version of the classic shooting brake. No further plans for the design study were announced.

At the International Motor Show in Paris, Daimler AG introduced the new Head of Global Design Gorden Wagener. At forty years of age, Wagener is the second youngest individual to hold the important and prestigious position of chief designer. An eleven year design veteran, Wagener succeeds Professor Peter Pfeiffer. The design study ConceptFASCINATION was created under the leadership of Gorden Wagener and is being touted as the worlds most desirable coupe. The lineage is known in automotive design language as shooting brake. This is the first time that Mercedes is showing its own innovative interpretation of this concept. Only a few days before the opening of the Paris Motor Show, Gorden Wagener put the finishing touches on the show car before it was shipped off to be center stage at one of the most important auto shows in Europe. Gorden Wagener has worked for Mercedes-Benz since 1997 and as head of the Advanced Design department. Wagener is among the pioneers within the Stuttgart automotive brand who develop future vehicle concepts and work towards the realization of new design strategies. Wagener and his team showcased their ideas for the premium automobile of the future with their much-noted research vehicle F 700, which was presented by Mercedes-Benz in the fall of 2007. Wagener studied Industrial Design at the University of Essen in Germany and later focused on Transportation Design at the Royal College of Art in London. He began his career as Exterior Designer in 1995, and joined Mercedes-Benz in Sindelfingen, Germany two years later. In 1999, he became head of the Exterior / Interior Styling department, designing the models of the GL, M and R-Class with his team. Audi O Concept Car Designed by Ondrej Jirec fm Czech Republic Make Audi Model O Concept year 2008 Production year ? Engine hybrid diesel/electric The 2008 Audi O concept was designed by Ondrej Jirec, a design student from the Czech Republic who is beginning studies at the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California in 2008. The Audi O concept was designed to fuse a powerful and innovative audio system with a stylish and sporty four-seat hatchback. The exterior design uses several Audi trademark styling themes, especially at the front where the square grille sits neatly between the LED headlights. The doors feature glass windows running along the bottom edge which provide an interesting shape to the profile of the car. At the rear of the car the pullout door echoes the design of the squared off Audi grille. The styling of the Audi O was influenced by a variety of sources including the Audi Shooting Brake concept from 2005, the Apple iPod and music. The interior of the Audi O concept is bright and airy thanks to a full length panoramic roof which floods the cabin with light. Inside, the passenger compartment has been separated from the engine compartment by a double firewall to help keep out external noise which might interfere with the powerful sound system. The Audi O concept features a unique audio system which has internet connectivity for downloading music onto the built-in 650 GB hard drive. When parked up a Bluetooth system can connect two or more Audi O cars to play audio over a wider area. In this situation, a host Audi O is set to be the source of sound and the other vehicles act as speakers. The Audi O also features a pullout rear door fitted with a DJ set with mixing decks. The ads for its new Musa feature Carla Bruni, Italian model/actress — and the recent bride of French President Nicolas Sarkozy. In the first, she arrived at a red-carpet event in the Musa, where she was greeted by a neck-craning, flash-popping crowd to the strains of "Bang Bang, My Baby Shot Me Down" — and set fire to a traditional black limousine by touching it. The new ad, set to make its premiere this weekend in Europe, shows the funeral for a white limousine. Lancia says the point of the ads is to show that its Musa is the natural replacement for old-fashioned big cars. The new Musa, the automaker says, "is the first to unite the comfort, spaciousness and classiness of a limousine with the agility and compact size of a city car." Also, it must be said, the first car with an ad that features as its star the first lady of a major country. It must be paying off, since Lancia said the new model is already the top seller in its class in Italy. The ads were filmed in September — before Bruni and Sarkozy's wedding. Watch the first ad here. The exterior is equipped with a full body kit: ABT added a front lip, aggressive side skirts and a rear wing. The stainless steel two-pipe exhaust system blends well with the 19-inch wheels to create a more aggressive appearance. ABT offers three upgraded engines for the Variant: a 1.4-liter TFSI that delivers 210 horsepower, a 1.9-liter TDI that lays down 130 hp and a torquey 2.0-liter TDI with 190 hp. ABT chassis mods include springs, shocks and an adjustable sport suspension.
